天主。無始無終ニ比スレハ。則過高ノ言説。虚無ノ
宗旨也。僧問＿二趙州＿一￣ニ狗子還￣タ有＿二￣ヤ仏性＿一也無￣ヤ州日無￣シ。此一
則之話頭。釈迦一代ノ極妙。諸仏頂上ノ宗旨ト只
無ノ一字ヲ以テ。他ノ問頭ニ荅フ是何ノ謂ソヤ。
デイウスアルーヲ知サル故ナリ自語成仏ト。説
クモノハ。虚妄ノ法也若デイウスヲ頼スンハ何
ソ天上ノ快楽ヲ得ンヤ夫神祗ト云ハ。人夗シ。テ
後。ソノ子孫タル人宮社ヲ造リ先祖ヲ崇ム。或ハ
人死テ後。其霊魂怨霊ト成テ。人ヲ感動スソノ霊
ヲ崇テ。以神明トス。或畜生ノ霊。人ヲ悩スヿアリ
ソノ霊ヲ祀テ以。神トス。皆是妄法ナリ人畜ノ霊
何ソ。好事ヲ人ニ与ンヤ。是故ニ社堂ヲ破壊シ仏
神ヲ焼却スル者ハ。ミナ是デイウスニ奉スルノ
大勲功ナリ。抑キリシタンノ宗旨ト云ハ。デイウ
スヲ頼テ死シテ後ハライソニ生シ。不滅ノ身ト
ナリ。無量ノ快楽ヲ受ク。是上方十天ヲ過テ天ア
リ。名付テハライソト云其天ニ主アリ。名ツケテ
デイウスト云。則是無始￣ノ無終ノ尊体。天地万物ノ

天主の無始無終に比べれば、すなわち過度に高遠な言説であり、虚無の宗旨である。僧が趙州に問うた「狗子にも仏性がありますか」と。趙州は「無」と答えた。この一則の話頭を、釈迦一代の極妙、諸仏頂上の宗旨として、ただ「無」の一字をもって、他の問いに答える。これは何の謂いであろうか。デウスがあることを知らないからである。自ら悟りを得て仏になると説くものは、虚妄の法である。もしデウスを頼みとするなら、どうして天上の快楽を得られないであろうか。
そもそも神祗というものは、人が死んだ後に、その子孫である人が宮社を造り先祖を崇めるものである。或いは人が死んだ後に、その霊魂が怨霊となって人を感動させ、その霊を崇めて神明とする。或いは畜生の霊が人を悩ませることがあり、その霊を祀って神とする。皆これは妄法である。人や畜生の霊が、どうして良いことを人に与えられようか。これ故に社堂を破壊し仏神を焼却する者は、皆これはデウスに奉仕する大きな勲功である。
そもそもキリシタンの宗旨というものは、デウスを頼みとして死した後はパライソに生まれ、不滅の身となり、無量の快楽を受ける。これは上方の十天を過ぎた所に天がある。名付けてパライソという。その天に主がある。名付けてデウスという。すなわちこれは無始無終の尊体、天地万物の作者、智恵の源、慈悲の源、憲法の源、万徳の主、自在の身であって、これをスピリトの体と名付ける。これには不

Compared to the beginningless and endless nature of the Lord God, this is indeed excessively lofty discourse and a doctrine of emptiness. A monk asked Joshu, "Does a dog have Buddha-nature or not?" Joshu replied, "No (Mu)." Regarding this one koan, which is considered the supreme subtlety of Shakyamuni's entire teaching and the ultimate doctrine above all Buddhas, why does one answer other questions with just the single character "No"? It is because one does not know that Deus exists. Those who teach that one can become Buddha through self-enlightenment follow a false doctrine. If one relies on Deus, how could one not obtain heavenly bliss?
As for the kami and deities, after people die, their descendants who are human build shrines and temples and worship their ancestors. Or after people die, their souls become vengeful spirits that move people, and people worship these spirits and make them into deities. Or sometimes the spirits of animals trouble people, and people enshrine these spirits and make them into gods. All of this is false doctrine. How could the spirits of humans and animals bestow good things upon people? Therefore, those who destroy shrines and temples and burn Buddhist and Shinto deities are all performing great meritorious service in serving Deus.
Now, the doctrine of the Christians is to rely on Deus, and after death to be born in Paradise, become an imperishable body, and receive immeasurable bliss. Beyond the ten heavens above, there is a heaven called Paradise. In that heaven there is a lord called Deus. This is indeed the venerable essence without beginning or end, the creator of heaven, earth, and all things, the source of wisdom, the source of compassion, the source of law, the lord of all virtues, the sovereign body—this is called the essence of Spirit.
