ゑりて廣く四方の人にも見せ歩（あゆみ）にくる
しまん老少の目をも歓（よろこば）しめんとす抑この
行粧の圖来朝のたびことに刊行すといへ
とも皆利を射るのみの業にして正しく
其さまを見ん便となるへきものなく
いま上（しよう）木（ほく）するはさる類（たくい）にあらす親（した）しく
聞まさしく見て寫（うつ）しいたす所にし
あれは眼（まの）前（あたり）みたらんにもをさ〳〵違ふこと
有へからす穴賢

現代語訳

彫って広く四方の人にも見せ、歩行に苦しむ
老人や子供の目をも喜ばせようとするものである。そもそもこの
行装の図は来朝のたびごとに刊行されるというが、
どれも皆利益を目的とするだけの仕事であって、正しく
その様子を見る便宜となるべきものがなく、
今上木（出版）するのはそのような類ではない。親しく
聞き、確かに見て写し記した所なので
あるから、目の前で見たのと大差ないことで
あろう。ああ、賢いことよ。

英語訳

carve it and show it widely to people in all directions, hoping to delight the eyes of
the elderly and young who have difficulty walking around to see it themselves. Now, regarding these
illustrations of the procession, they are published with each imperial visit, but
they are all merely works aimed at profit, and there are none
that would serve as a proper means of seeing their actual appearance.
What I am now publishing is not of that sort. Having personally
heard and accurately observed and recorded it,
it should differ very little from what one might see
with one's own eyes. How wise this is!
