器物験證
こゝに老人（らうじん）あり。器物（うつわもの）の名目（めやうもく）を人の語（かた）れる
まゝ。たゞ一度 聞（きゝ）て。よく暗誦（そらん）ぜり。その器物（うつわもの）とは。
手拭（てのごひ） 火鉢（ひばち） 毛氈（もうせん） 硯箱（すゝりばこ）
琴（こと） 末広（すへひろ） 文箱（ふみばこ） 鏡（かゞみ）
鍋（なへ） 茶椀（ちやわん）
以上十 種（しゆ）。いかゞして記臆（きおく）せりやと問（と）ふ。答（こたゑ）て曰。
第一の頂（いたゝき）に。手拭（てのこひ）を置（をく）とたとへ第二の額（ひたい）に。火鉢（ひばち）の

火をたとへ。第三の眼（め）に物見せる。もうせんとたとへ。
第四の鼻（はな）に。すゝばな。すゞりとたとへ。第五の口に。
ことばの琴（こと）をたとへ。第六 喉（のんど）に。のどを通（とほ）れば。末（すへ）は
ひろしとたとへ。第七の乳（ち）に。文箱（ふみばこ）にふさあり。乳（ち）
ぶさとたとへ。第八の胸（むね）に。むねの鏡（かゞみ）とたとえ。
第九の腹（はら）に。鍋（なへ）一 盃（はい）の食（しよく）は。腹（はら）ふくるゝとたとへ。
第十の臍（へそ）が茶（ちや）わかすとたとへ。

ここに老人がいた。器物の名前を人が語るのを、ただ一度聞いただけで、よく暗記することができた。その器物とは、

鍋 茶椀
以上十種類である。どのようにして記憶したのかと問うと、答えて言った。

Verification of Utensils
There was an old man here. When people spoke the names of various utensils, he could memorize them well after hearing them just once. Those utensils were:
Hand towel, Brazier, Felt mat, Inkstone box
Koto (zither), Folding fan, Document box, Mirror
Pot, Tea bowl
These ten types in total. When asked how he memorized them, he answered:
For the first, the crown of the head, he likened placing a hand towel there; for the second, the forehead, he likened the fire of a brazier;

For the third, the eyes, he likened a felt mat that shows things to the eyes;
For the fourth, the nose, he likened nasal mucus to an inkstone; for the fifth, the mouth,
he likened the koto of words; for the sixth, the throat, once it passes through the throat, the end is
wide, he said; for the seventh, the breast, a document box has tassels, like
breasts; for the eighth, the chest, he likened it to a mirror of the chest;
For the ninth, the belly, a pot full of food makes the belly swell;
For the tenth, he likened the navel to boiling tea.
