といふ。その小印（こじるし）は。舟（ふね）は幾艘（いくそう）ありとも。或は幕と
極（きわ）め。馬（むま）は何疋（なんひき）ありとも。或は手綱（たつな）と極（きはむ）る類を
いふ也。此一色づゝは。甚（はなは）だ見覚（みおほ）へやすき事なり。
是を人家（しんか）の種子（たね）なとにたとふる也。右の客（きやく）十人
列座（れつさ）するには。大じるしなし。ケ（か）様（やう）なるは。何（なに）にても。
二色づゝのしるしを見て。人身の種（たね）にたとふる也。
これ大印（おほじるし）なき時の法なり。扨又。紋（もん）と色（いろ）とに
限（かぎ）らず。あるひは紋（もん）に柄糸（つかいと）。又は柄糸（つかいと）に帯の類。

同（おな）じき人ありとも。種子（たね）のたとへ所（どころ）。ちがひ
あるゆへ。紛（まぎ）るゝ事なし。其 餘（よ）は。なを口決（くけつ）
多（おほ）し。凡（およ）そ一 切（さい）目（め）に見る物。此 心得（こゝろへ）を用（もち）ゆる
時は。能（よく）物（もの）を見 知（しる）といえり。

【右丁】
という。その小印は、船が何艘あろうとも、例えば幕と
決め、馬が何頭あろうとも、例えば手綱と決める類を
言うのである。この一色ずつは、非常に見覚えやすいことである。
これを人家の種別などに例えるのである。右の客十人が
列座する場合には、大印がない。このような場合は、何でも、
二色ずつの印を見て、人身の種別に例えるのである。
これは大印がない時の方法である。さてまた、紋と色とに
限らず、あるいは紋に柄糸、又は柄糸に帯の類、

何でも心のままにすべきである。たとえ、紋も色も同じ
人がいたとしても、種別の例える所が違い
があるゆえ、紛らわしいことはない。その他は、なお口決が
多い。およそ一切目に見る物、この心得を用いる
時は、よく物を見分けるという。

This is what it means. For these small marks, no matter how many ships there are, one decides on, for example, curtains, and no matter how many horses there are, one decides on, for example, reins—this is what is meant. These single colors are extremely easy to remember.
This is compared to the classification of people's households. When ten guests are seated in a row on the right, there are no large marks. In such cases, by observing marks of two colors each, one compares this to the classification of human bodies.
This is the method when there are no large marks. Furthermore, it is not limited to crests and colors; perhaps crests with hilt cords, or hilt cords with sashes and the like,

anything may be used as one's heart dictates. Even if there are people with the same crests and colors, since there are differences in what the classifications refer to, there will be no confusion. For the rest, there are still many oral instructions.
Generally, for all things visible to the eye, when this understanding is employed, one is said to distinguish objects well.
