薄（ちやう）をそらんじ。庭上（ていしやう）の棗（なつめ）を記（き）し。
眼（まなこ）月の如（ごと）く。八 行共（ぎやうともに）下（くた）り。日（ひゞ）に万言（まんげん）を
試（こゝろ）むるは。天賦（てんふ）なるへし。子産（しさん）張華（ちやうくわ）
も。記臆（きおく）なくして。奚（いつくん）ぞ博物（はくぶつ）の名（な）を
得（ゑ）んや。此 冊子（さつし）は極（きわ）めて卑近（ひきん）の術（しゆつ）也。
しかれ共。蒭蕘（すうじやう）の言（ことは）をも癈（すつ）べからす。
雑劇（きやうげん）《割書：萩大名｜》伝奇（じやうるり）《割書：物くさ｜太郎》も。意（こゝろ）を留（とむ）れは。

現代語訳
【右丁】
帳簿を暗記し、庭の棗を記憶している。
目は月のように明るく、八行とも下って、日々に万言を
試すのは、天賦の才であろう。子産や張華
も、記憶力なくして、どうして博物の名を
得られようか。この冊子は極めて身近な術である。
しかしながら、草刈りや薪取りの者の言葉も捨ててはならない。
狂言《割書：萩大名》や浄瑠璃《割書：物くさ太郎》も、心を留めれば、

記憶に有益な道具となる。心を留めなければ、
四書六経も、無用の長物であろう。それ道は
身近にある。もし人がこの冊子に心を留め、
日々月々積み重ねる功があれば、楊雄の門に酒を
載せずして、恵子の五車を傾けるであろう。

With eyes bright as the moon, reading eight lines at once, testing
ten thousand words daily - this must be heaven-sent talent. Zichan and Zhang Hua
too, without memory, how could they have gained
their reputation for vast learning? This booklet presents extremely commonplace techniques.
However, even the words of grass-cutters and wood-gatherers should not be discarded.
Comic plays such as "Hagi Daimyo" and puppet theater such as "Monokusa Taro," if one pays attention,

become useful tools for memory. If one does not pay attention,
even the Four Books and Six Classics become useless burdens. The Way is
close at hand. If people focus their minds on this booklet
and achieve the merit of daily and monthly accumulation, they will surpass Yang Xiong's gate without carrying wine,
and overturn Huizi's five cartloads of books.
