頭角崢嶸神化弁謄鰲龍上
筆花絢彩光芒冝射斗牛間

序
四十年前。予（よ）が髫齢（てうれい）のころ。師（し）に従（したかつ）て
読書（とくしよ）を日課（につくわ）す。生質（むまれつき）魯訥（ろどつ）にして。朝（あした）に
よめるは夕（ゆふべ）に忘（わす）る。たゞ氷（こほり）に鏤（ちりば）め。水に
画（ゑがく）がことし。老師（らうし）教（おしへ）に倦（うみ）て。終（つゐ）に此 記臆（きおく）
の法を口授（くじゆ）せられぬ。是より漸（やうや）くに進（すゝ）みて。
或は一 句半章（くはんしやう）を。暗誦（あんしやう）する事を得（ゑ）たり。
此法。今を以て観（み）るに。老師（らうし）より始（はしま）るに

序
四十年前、私が幼い頃、師に従って
読書を日課としていた。生まれつき愚鈍で、朝に
読んだものは夕方には忘れてしまう。まさに氷に彫り込み、水に
絵を描くようなものであった。老師は教えることに疲れ果て、ついにこの記憶
の法を口伝で授けられた。これより徐々に進歩して、
一句半章を暗誦することができるようになった。
この方法は、今思い返すと、老師から始まったのではなく

Preface
Forty years ago, when I was still a child, I followed my teacher
and made reading books my daily practice. By nature I was slow-witted, and what I
