現代語訳
来作は娘のお杣が狩人の与六と何やら深い関係があることを察し、与六を婿にしようとして、引き出物に刀一腰を出した。与六がこれを見ると、父親の千々段正国行の刀である。「さては、この来作こそが父を討って刀を奪い取った者であろう」と、だんだん様子を聞けば、旅人を殺して奪い取った刀であるという。「さてこそ父の仇」と切りかかる。来作が返り討ちにするのは容易であったが、娘を不憫に思い、わざと手向かいもせず、これまでの悪事をだんだんと懺悔して、与六に討たれようと言って、娘のことを頼んだ。そのため、仇でありながら来作の心意気に感じて、与六はこれよりお杣と夫婦になり、主人の名字を受け継いで蓮葉与六と名乗り、後に久吉に仕えて武名を現した。

Raisaku noticed that his daughter Osoma had some deep relationship with the hunter Yoroku, and wanting to make Yoroku his son-in-law, he presented a sword as a betrothal gift. When Yoroku saw this, it was his father Chichidan Masakuni's sword. "So this Raisaku must be the one who killed my father and stole his sword." When he gradually inquired about the circumstances, he was told it was a sword taken after killing a traveler. "Indeed, this is my father's enemy," and he attacked. Though it would have been easy for Raisaku to strike back and kill him, he pitied his daughter and deliberately offered no resistance. He confessed his past evil deeds one by one, saying he would let Yoroku kill him, and entrusted his daughter to him. Therefore, though Raisaku was his enemy, Yoroku was moved by his noble spirit. From then on, Yoroku became husband and wife with Osoma, inherited his master's family name, called himself Hachisubara Yoroku, and later served under Hisayoshi, distinguishing himself in military service.
