現代語訳
さて、斎藤義龍は軍師竹中重治を頼みとして、戦に勝利を得ないということがなく、勢いが盛んになって、近国で敵対する者はいなかった。
しかしこの頃、重治が病気と言い広めて引きこもり、戦をまとめて戦いを好まない心情も、あるいは二心もあるのではないかと義龍は疑った。知略の陣において家の郎党を集めて、いろいろと戦の評定をした。

小田家の家臣で左枝犬清という者がいた。事情があって春永の勘気を受け、姿をやつして竹中の方へ奉公し、「何とか重治を小田方へ味方させて、それを功として主人の勘気を許されよう」と心を砕いていた。
竹中の娘千里という者といつしか語らいの仲となって、一子をもうけた。親々の目を忍んで育て上げて、その名を清松と名付けた。

Now, Saito Yoshitatsu relied on his military strategist Takenaka Shigeharu, and never failed to achieve victory in battle. His power grew strong, and there was no one in the neighboring provinces who opposed him.
However, recently Shigeharu had spread word that he was ill and withdrew into seclusion. Yoshitatsu suspected that perhaps his reluctance to organize battles and his dislike of warfare indicated some disloyalty. In his strategic headquarters, he gathered his household retainers and held various war councils.

Among the Oda family's retainers was a man called Saeda Inukiyo. Due to certain circumstances, he had incurred Harunaga's displeasure. He disguised his appearance and went to serve the Takenaka family, hoping that somehow he could make Shigeharu side with the Oda faction, and through this achievement have his master's anger pardoned.
He entered into a romantic relationship with Takenaka's daughter named Chisato, and they had a child together. Hiding from both sets of parents, they raised the child and named him Kiyomatsu.
