現代語訳
かの猿の助と言った昔より比類なき生い立ちをして、今小田に仕えて段々立身し、この下藤吉久芳となり、小田方随一の軍師である。桶狭間の合戦で義龍を難所に引き寄せ討ち取ろうと、かねて犬清に内通して「味方空虚なり」と竹中を偽り、まんまと斉藤方の大軍を誘い出した。
久芳は犬清が「もし一命に及ぶ時は、一子清松を取り立て、左枝の家を立てさせん」と契約して、清松を密かに引き取り、今日の戦にこの清松を懐に抱いて出陣し、自ら左枝犬清なりと名乗って、敵の大勢を突き立てた。
久芳の謀略に陥り、斉藤方はことごとく討ち死にし、大将義龍もついに花々しく戦って久芳に討ち取られた。この時久芳は「敵の大将義龍を左枝犬清が討ち取ったり」と呼ばわった。
英語訳
That monkey's retainer, as he was called, had an incomparable upbringing from ancient times. Now serving the Oda, he had gradually risen in rank to become Shimotokichi Hisayoshi, the foremost military strategist of the Oda forces. In the Battle of Okehazama, he had previously conspired with Inukiyo to lure Yoshitatsu into difficult terrain and kill him, deceiving Takenaka by claiming "our forces are weak," thus successfully drawing out the large army of the Saito faction.
Hisayoshi had made a contract with Inukiyo: "Should it come to your life, I will raise your son Kiyomatsu and establish the Saeda house." He secretly took custody of Kiyomatsu, and in today's battle, carrying this Kiyomatsu in his bosom, he took the field himself, calling out "I am Saeda Inukiyo" and charging into the enemy's large force.
Fallen into Hisayoshi's stratagem, the Saito forces were completely annihilated, and their general Yoshitatsu, after fighting magnificently to the end, was finally killed by Hisayoshi. At this moment, Hisayoshi proclaimed: "The enemy general Yoshitatsu has been slain by Saeda Inukiyo!"
