太儀ニ候是迄道法何程
有之候哉
御答ニ三拾三里御座候
夫は遠方之所別而太義ニ候
と被仰候処上ノ間拾畳鋪之
座鋪ニ勘ケ由様被成御座
高遠ゟ罷越候由今聞候得は
三拾三里有之由能遠方
罷越別而太義ニ候第一
役人共致安堵候趣可申候
此節独活蕨沢山有へし
豆腐も能出来可申候得は
夫ニ而事済候決而肴類
差出候ニ及不申候是非不出
取候而不叶存候ハヽ玉子能候
川魚ハ無之■御座候得者有之哉

現代語訳
「大変でございます。これまでの道のりはどの程度
ございましたか」
お答えに「三十三里でございます」
「それは遠方からのところ、格別大変でございました」
とおっしゃったところ、上の間の十畳敷きの
座敷にお通しくださり、
「高遠から出向いた由、今聞きましたが
三十三里もあるとのこと、よくぞ遠方から
出向かれました。格別大変でございました。第一に
役人どもも安心いたします旨申すことでしょう。
この季節、うど、わらびが沢山あるでしょう。
豆腐もよく出来ることでしょうから
それで事足ります。決して魚類を
お出しするには及びません。是非とも出さなければ
ならないとお思いでしたら卵がよろしい。
川魚はございませんが、もしもございましたら」

英語訳
"That must have been quite an ordeal. How far was the journey
up to this point?"
In response: "It was thirty-three ri."
"That is quite far indeed, it must have been especially difficult,"
he said, and had us shown to
a ten-tatami sitting room in the upper quarters.
"I just heard that you came from Takatō—
thirty-three ri, what a long distance you have
traveled. It must have been especially arduous. First and foremost,
the officials will surely express their relief.
At this season, there should be plenty of udo [spikenard] and bracken fern.
Tofu should also turn out well, so
that will suffice. There is absolutely no need to
serve fish dishes. If you absolutely feel you must
serve something, eggs would be fine.
