現代語訳
毘沙門と大黒が招客にて福人たちを招かれたが、恵比須を呼んでは兄弟同士、互いに窮屈にあるべしとて、弁天と恵比須を除き、その外の組み合わせだけにて、念の入った馳走なり。
毘沙門が大黒へ金の無心を言いなさった。
「さてさて近年以の外船酔いになりました。世間では福人と申そうにござれど、甚だの粗衣。何とぞ金子千両お貸し下され。」
【ムカデ、毘沙門の眷族の台詞】
「我ら旦那もよほど金はござれども、皆鞍馬小判ゆえ、子どもの玩具同然、すきときけません。」
【本文続き】
大黒天は大の吝嗇者ゆえ、金の無心に胸を突き、嘘を並べ立てて厚かましく断りなさった。
【大黒天の台詞】
「当寺は時節柄にて、一箱はさておき一包みもござらぬ。あるある言っても無いものは金、無い無いと言ってもあるものはネズミの糞ばかりさ。」
【布袋の台詞】
「大黒殿がそれでは、他によい人はないわさ。」
英語訳
Bishamonten and Daikokuten hosted a banquet to invite the fortune deities, but thinking that calling Ebisu would make it cramped among the brothers, they excluded Benzaiten and Ebisu, making it a carefully prepared feast with only the remaining combinations.
Bishamonten asked Daikokuten for a loan of money:
"Indeed, recently I've become extremely seasick. Though the world calls us fortune deities, I'm dressed quite shabbily. Please lend me a thousand ryo in gold."
【Centipede, retainer of Bishamonten, speaks】
"Our master also has quite a lot of money, but it's all Kurama koban, so it's like children's toys and cannot be spent."

Since Daikokuten is a great miser, when asked for money his heart was pierced, and he lined up lies to shamelessly refuse.
【Daikokuten's dialogue】
"This temple, given the times, doesn't have even one package, let alone one box. Even if you say 'there is, there is,' what we don't have is gold. Even if you say 'there isn't, there isn't,' what we do have is only mouse droppings."
【Hotei's dialogue】
"If Daikoku-san is like that, then there's no other good person around."
