現代語訳
福禄寿はどぶに落ちて難儀していたのを布袋がようやく聞きつけ、どぶから引き上げ、四つ手の戻り駕籠が来たのを借りて乗せ、行く途中で大きな川があったので、福禄寿を担いで向こうへ渡し、さて大黒を背負って向こうへ越しなさった。

棒組が一杯になめっているぞ。

俺をここに捨てて行くのか、どうするのだ。いや、布袋奴だ。

今この袋を向こうに置いて来てから、背負って越してやろう。さてさて今日のようなつまらない目に遭った日はない。俺一人で大難儀をする。いまいましいことだ。
英語訳
Fukurokuju had fallen into a ditch and was in distress when Hotei finally heard about it. He pulled him out of the ditch, borrowed a returning four-handed palanquin that came by, and put him in it. On the way, they came to a large river, so he carried Fukurokuju across to the other side, then carried Daikoku on his back to cross over as well.
