スマトラ人
スマトラはサマトラとも言う。ジャワ国【「6 ジャワ人」の項参照】の北にある島国である。これも非常に暑い国で、人々や風俗は卑しく、国主がおらず、それぞれが土地を領有している。争いごとはない。この国は金銀を産出するというが、民衆の多くは採掘を行わない。偶然金塊を得ることがあれば、旅人と交易するという。南北両方の星を見ることができる。この国の東にブルネイ国があり、人々や風俗は相似しており、常に暑い国である。故に別に記載しない。ジャワ、スマトラ、ブルネイ等はマゼラニカ（マゼラン海峡）に近い。

Sumatra People
Sumatra is also called Samatra. It is an island country north of Java country [see section "6. Javanese People"]. This is also an extremely hot country, where the people and customs are base, there is no sovereign ruler, and each person rules their own territory. There are no conflicts. Although this country is said to produce gold and silver, most of the people do not engage in mining. When they occasionally obtain gold nuggets, they trade them with travelers. Both northern and southern stars can be seen. To the east of this country is Brunei, where the people and customs are similar, and it is constantly hot. Therefore, it is not recorded separately. Java, Sumatra, Brunei, etc. are close to Magellanica (Strait of Magellan).
