Korea is the ancient Three Hans (Samhan), comprising the lands of Mahan, Jinhan, and Byeonhan. In medieval times it was divided into Silla, Baekje, and Goguryeo, and in later periods these were unified and called Joseon. The country has eight provinces. It is a cold country. Gyeonggi Province is located thirty-eight degrees north of the equator, and Busan waters are at thirty-six degrees.
