韃靼は本名を韃而靼（タツチタン）と言い、今は「而」の字を省略している。その国には東西黒白の二種がある。属類は甚だ多く、国界は四十八道に分かれている大国である。古の胡国と言い、或いは蒙古と言うのも皆この国の別名である。南海は唐土に接し、北方は氷海に近く大寒地で、四季昼夜の長短が大いに他の地方とは同じでない所が多い。最も富饒な国であると言われている。国人は弓馬を好み、勇強の風俗である。北極地を出ること四十三度より六十四度に至る。南北は短く東西に長い。

Tartar's original name is Tachitan (韃而靼), but now the character "而" is omitted. In that country there are two types: eastern and western, black and white. The tribal groups are extremely numerous, and it is a large country divided into forty-eight territorial divisions. What was called the ancient Hu country, or sometimes called Mongol, are all alternative names for this country. The southern sea borders Chinese territory, while the north is close to the ice sea in extremely cold lands, where the length of days and nights in the four seasons differs greatly from other regions in many places. It is said to be the most prosperous and fertile country. The people of this country favor archery and horsemanship, with customs of bravery and strength. It extends from forty-three to sixty-four degrees north latitude. It is short from north to south and long from east to west.
