現代語訳
十人中八、九人までは無病にして成長するべきである。
○灸治療のこと 小児が生まれつき顔色が悪く艶がなく、泣き声に力がなく多病に見える場合は灸治療を行うべきである。生まれつき色艶がよく泣き声が高く力があるのは無病である。必ず灸治療をしてはならない。その理由は、一体小児は陽気発盛の気をもって成長するものである。灸の艾は陽気不足なるものを養い助けるものである。この故に無病の小児には灸はよろしくない。老人は陽気不足であるゆえに、すべて灸治療がよいものである。無病の小児に理由なく灸をする時は偏勝偏負ということがあって、多くは必ず頭瘡を生じるものである。
経書に「諸痛痒瘡は心火に属す」という事がある。これに依って考えるべきである。また「故有れば毒無し」ということがある。この語を返してみれば、故無きは鍼灸薬ともに皆毒である。世間の言葉で「薬は人を殺さず医師が人を殺す」というのは、これらのことを考え悟るべきである。

○Regarding moxibustion treatment: If a child is born with poor complexion, lacking luster, with weak crying voice and appears sickly, moxibustion treatment should be performed. If born with good color and luster, loud crying voice and strength, this indicates no illness. Moxibustion treatment must not be performed. The reason is that children as a whole grow through vigorous yang qi. Moxa mugwort nourishes and assists those with insufficient yang qi. Therefore, moxibustion is not good for healthy children. Since elderly people have insufficient yang qi, moxibustion treatment is generally good for them. When moxibustion is performed on healthy children without cause, there occurs what is called "partial excess and partial deficiency," and this usually inevitably produces head sores.
The classics state, "All pain, itching, and sores belong to heart fire." One should consider based on this. Also, there is the saying "When there is cause, there is no toxicity." If we reverse this phrase, when there is no cause, acupuncture, moxibustion, and medicine are all toxic. The common saying "Medicine does not kill people; doctors kill people" - one should contemplate and understand such matters.
