身は雲州富田の庄にありながら、周辺の国々七ヶ国まで打ち従わせ、威を山陽・山陰の地々に振るうに及んでは、彼ら（亀井一族）もまた自然とその家の被官となってしまった。伊予守経久の男である左衛門尉晴久の時、毛利大膳大夫元就が安芸国に起こって晴久と領地を争うこと約七年、永禄十一年（1568年）の春、晴久はついに戦いに敗れて尼子の家は滅びてしまった。そこで茲経（そのころは新十郎と言った）は本国を離れて織田殿に謁見し、尼子の家を再び興すことを図ったが、ついに叶わず、また織田殿のもとに参り、羽柴筑前守秀吉の手に

属し、因幡国鹿野の城を守った。織田殿が亡くなられ、秀吉が天下を治められた後、鹿野の城を賜った。これより後、関白の向かわせ給うほどの軍に随行参加しないということはなかった。武勇の誉れは世に伝わるところ少なくない。いつの時であったか、茲経の年来の武功を賞されて因幡国の半分を賜るべきとの仰せが下された。茲経は恐縮して承り、「茲経は日本の中に望み思う国はございません。せめて御許しをいただいて琉球を賜り、打ち従わせていただきたい」と申したところ、関白殿が持ち給うた御団扇に自ら「亀井琉球介」と書いて給わった

While based in Toda-no-shō in Unshū (Izumo Province), they subjugated the surrounding seven provinces and extended their authority throughout the San'yō and San'in regions. When this happened, they (the Kamei clan) also naturally became retainers of that house (the Amago). During the time of Saemon-no-jō Haruhisa, son of Iyo-no-kami Tsunehisa, Mōri Daizen-dayū Motonari arose in Aki Province and fought with Haruhisa over territory for about seven years. In the spring of Eiroku 11 (1568), Haruhisa was finally defeated in battle and the Amago house was destroyed. Therefore, Korenobu (who was then called Shinjūrō) left his home province and had an audience with Lord Oda, planning to restore the Amago house, but this ultimately could not be achieved. He then went again to Lord Oda and became subordinate to Hashiba Chikuzen-no-kami Hideyoshi's forces,

and defended Shikano Castle in Inaba Province. After Lord Oda passed away and Hideyoshi came to rule the realm, he was granted Shikano Castle. From this time forward, there was no military campaign that the Kampaku (regent) undertook that he did not participate in. His reputation for military prowess was widely known throughout the world. At some point, his years of military achievements were recognized and he was ordered to receive half of Inaba Province. Korenobu humbly accepted this and said, "Korenobu has no desire for any province within Japan. If I may humbly receive permission, I would like to be granted Ryukyu and subjugate it." The Kampaku then took his own fan and personally wrote "Kamei Ryukyu-no-suke" on it and bestowed it upon him.
