Shuri-dayū Fujiwara no Sukeyoshi was the son of Bungo-no-kami Sukehei. Izu-no-kami Tamekage, who was the seventh-generation descendant of Otomaro, the fourth son of Sadaijin Takechi-maro-kō and a sangi (court counselor), was initially appointed as Moku-no-suke and therefore took the name Kudō. His grandson Suruga-no-kami Tokinobu lived in Itō-no-shō in Izu Province and was the first to take the name Itō. Yamato-no-kami Sukeyoshi (childhood name: Inubō-maru), son of Kudō Saemon-no-jō Suketsune who was six generations descended from Tokinobu, received the appointment as jitō (land steward) of Hyūga Province by order of the Udaishō-ke (Minamoto no Yoritomo).
