【Right page】 (He was able to return to his home province, was appointed to Daizen-dayū, and changed his name to Yoshisuke.) On the 2nd day of the 4th month of Tenbun 6, he was granted the court rank of Junior Fourth Rank Lower Grade, and on the 24th day of the 8th month of the same 12th year, he was appointed Daizen-dayū. On the 3rd day of the 3rd month of the 15th year, he was promoted to Junior Third Rank, and after taking Buddhist vows, he was called Itō Sani-no-nyūdō (Third Rank Lay Monk Itō). Meanwhile, Yoshisuke's grandfather, the late Yamato-no-kami Sukekuni, had been killed by the Shimazu at the battle of Obi in this province at the end of Bunmei era, so thinking that he must somehow avenge his ancestors, in the 10th month of Tenbun 10, he advanced on Satsuma Province. From this point, the Itō and Shimazu forces clashed in warfare that never ceased. Beginning with Onigashiro and Sumino castles, he attacked and captured Mei and Shinzan castles, and killed many of the Shimazu family's warrior generals. In the 9th month of the same 20th year, the Shimazu finally made peace and the mutual warfare temporarily ceased. 【Left page】 From around Kōji 3, the Itō and Shimazu again fought over the territory of Ōsumi, and by the summer of Eiroku 6, both houses again raised armies. After the Third Rank Lay Monk died, his eldest son Sakyō-dayū Yoshimasu followed his father and died on the 11th day of the 7th month of Eiroku 12 at the age of forty (the Shimazu family records say he was twenty-four). In the summer of Genki 3, Shimazu Hyōgo-no-kami Tadahira (later Yoshihiro) advanced on Hyūga Province. The Itō forces went out to meet them near Iino and fought, with over 500 cavalry of their main forces dying in battle. Because retainers Fukunaga Tamba-no-kami and Nomura Iga-no-kami and others changed sides, on the night of the 7th day of the 12th month of Tenshō 5, Shimazu forces entered Nojiri Castle, and when dawn broke on the 8th day, Shuridayū Yoshihisa...
