一此度従 御上米穀下値二付諸品値段
引下と之儀被 仰出候当十町丁代共より町役人差出候

差出候頃二者 御上御百年御祝儀之節献上品等
差上候町順を以本町中町下之町三町上席二可
致段申出候處七町丁代申候二者御百年御祝儀之
口號者鬮取二而丁順書上候趣古役共より之儀申傅
非人而是迄親距二者不仕罷在候儀二付何分諸事
是迄之通二仕度段町役人迄度々申出候處一国
取上無之候得共右之通二致候得ハ十町一統勿論之
基二茂相成候半と存無拠七町丁代一統退役
仕度段町役人迄申出猶又此方共迄内意申聞
現代語訳
申し付けている商売の世話役たちはもちろんのこと、農村の商業監視役たちも怠慢になっている筋もあるのではないか。世話役たちから厳重に申し談じるよう、念入りに改めること。
右の趣旨を商業世話役中、町丁代、炭検査の者へ申し聞かせておくこと。以上

町の序列の件について御役所の御出役方にご理解いただいたところ、左の通り：
一、このたび御上から米穀の値下がりにつき諸品の値段引き下げの件が仰せ出されたところ、当十町の丁代たちから町役人が差し出した請け書一札に連印し、町の序列の件について町役人から下書きを差し出した頃には、御上の御百年御祝儀の節に献上品等を差し上げる町の序列をもって本町・中町・下之町の三町が上席となるべき旨を申し出た。ところが七町の丁代が申すには、御百年御祝儀の口上は籤取りで丁の順番を書き上げる趣き、古い役人たちからの申し伝えで、それ以外はこれまで慣例では行わずにきた件につき、何分にも諸事これまで通りにしたい旨を町役人まで度々申し出たところ、一向に取り上げられなかった。しかし右の通りにすれば十町統一はもちろんの基礎にもなるであろうと存じ、やむを得ず七町の丁代一統が退役したい旨を町役人まで申し出て、なおまたこちらたちまで内々に申し聞かせ

Regarding the matter of town ranking, the following was understood by the officials dispatched from the government office:
1. Recently, His Lordship issued orders regarding the lowering of prices for various goods due to the decline in grain prices. When the ward representatives of the ten towns submitted a written pledge through the town officials with joint seals, and around the time the town officials submitted a draft regarding town ranking matters, they proposed that based on the town ranking used when presenting tribute items during His Lordship's centennial celebration, the three towns of Honmachi, Nakamachi, and Shimonochi should take the highest seats. However, the representatives of the seven towns stated that according to tradition passed down from former officials, the protocol for the centennial celebration involved determining the order of towns by lottery, and since other matters had not been conducted in this manner according to past custom, they repeatedly petitioned the town officials that they wished to continue all affairs as they had been. Although this was not taken up at all, thinking that proceeding as proposed would certainly form the basis for unifying all ten towns, the representatives of the seven towns had no choice but to petition the town officials that they wished to resign from their posts en masse, and furthermore conveyed this intention privately to us as well.
