以上／達生録（たつしやうろく）に見へたり
○獣（けもの）の肉（にく）を食（くら）ふこと。好（このむ）べきにあらず。漢土（かんど）にては。
貴賤（きせん）常（つね）に食（しよく）すること。其国の風俗（ならわし）なれば害（かい）も
あるべからざれども。是（これ）がゆへにや。癰（よう）を発（はつ）し。
疽（そ）を憂（うれふ）るもの又／多（おほ）し。我（わ）が日本（につほん）も上／古（こ）はしらず。
今（いま）の時を以てみれば。血気（けつき）壮（さかん）にして肉食（にくしよく）する
ものは。潔（いさぎよ）からざる血液（けつえき）を蓄（たくわへ）。多（おほ）く腫物（しゆもつ）を生（しやう）じ。

以上は『達生録』に記載されている。
○獣の肉を食べることは、好ましいことではない。中国では、身分の貴賤を問わず常に食べることがその国の風習であるから害もないだろうが、そのためであろうか、腫れ物を発症し、悪性の腫れ物に悩む者もまた多い。我が日本も上古の時代はわからないが、現在の時代を見れば、血気盛んで肉食をする者は、汚れた血液を蓄積し、多く腫れ物を生じる。

すっぽんや白鳥を食べて、頭部の皮膚病を生じ、また血が頭に上って毛髪が抜け、疥癬を発症することがある。壮年期に猪や鹿を食べて、何の害も感じないと言っても、年を経て腫れ物を患う者は少なくない。ただし老人の足腰が冷える場合に、少し用いるのは、また妨げるべきではない。思うに四足動物については、神道で穢れの日数を唱え、諏訪明神から箸を受けて食べれば、穢れはないと言い、または同じ四足動物の中でも。
