「右帖」
前瓦堂之正面に瓦に而台坐を栫其上に像一ツ有之？像に而蓋
形？相見へ前には作り華を花瓶の如義ものへ指蝋燭立並香
燭等を指置有之参詣致し候者は香を焚拝を致し候寺内に
風鈴に似たるものを釣り有之大口差渡し壱尺五六寸も有之中に舌
有之右江紐ヲ下ケ夕方に至り右紐に而ふり鳴し候に付右之音を相図に
村中之者共皆帽子を取申候信心之者朝暮に参詣仕候仏
之名サンタマリヤと申候寺はバゼリカシヤと申候却而アメリカ人
常に帽子ヲ着用致し居候義に御座候

一此所に能在候内出産之様子ヲ見受も申候産婦は産たる日ゟ是ヲ
少し延し寝？セ枕之辺ヲ少し高く致し候尤七日之間は寝居食物は
鶴並米之粥唐等を給させ獣の類は禁し申候七日立候後は平日之通
働き申候産子は七日之間日々湯ヲあびせ申候取揚ケ婆婆の如幾もの
右せ話致し尤うぶ毛は剃り不申一生うぶ毛を用ひ申候由に御座候
右七日之間之湯は敷瓦を取除ケ右下へ捨申候小児之衣服失張
筒袖を用ひ申候
一身上宜敷者は皆獣ものを飼立申候獣は豕牛とい？ボロコカブマン

【右丁】
前は瓦造りの堂で、正面に瓦で台座を囲い、その上に像が一つあります。〔判読不明〕像で蓋のような形に見えます。前には作り花を花瓶のようなものに挿し、蝋燭立てを並べ、香や燭等を挿し置いてあります。参詣する者は香を焚いて拝をします。寺内に風鈴に似たものを吊るしてあり、大きな口の差し渡しが一尺五六寸もあり、中に舌があります。そこに紐を下げ、夕方になるとその紐で振り鳴らします。その音を合図に村中の者共は皆帽子を取ります。信心深い者は朝夕に参詣します。仏の名をサンタマリヤと言います。寺をバシリカと言います。なおアメリカ人は常に帽子を着用しています。

一、この所に滞在している内に、出産の様子を見受けました。産婦は産んだ日から〔判読不明〕を少し延ばして寝かせ、枕の辺りを少し高くします。もっとも七日の間は寝ており、食物は鶏並びに米の粥や砂糖等を与えさせ、獣の類は禁じます。七日経った後は平日の通り働きます。産子は七日の間、日々湯を浴びせます。取り上げ婆のような者が〔判読不明〕世話をします。もっとも産毛は剃らず、一生産毛を用います。その七日の間の湯は敷き瓦を取り除いてその下へ捨てます。小児の衣服は失張筒袖を用います。

In front is a tiled hall, with a tile-enclosed pedestal at the front, on which stands one statue. It is a [illegible] statue that appears to have a lid-like shape. In front, artificial flowers are placed in vase-like objects, with candlesticks arranged alongside, and incense and candles are placed there. Those who visit burn incense and worship. In the temple, something resembling a wind chime is hung, with a large mouth measuring one shaku five or six sun across, with a clapper inside. A rope hangs from it, and at evening they shake it with the rope to make it sound. At this sound as a signal, all the villagers remove their hats. Devout people visit for worship morning and evening. The name of the Buddha is Santa María. The temple is called Basilica. Furthermore, Americans constantly wear hats.

1. During my stay in this place, I observed the manner of childbirth. The woman in labor, from the day of birth, [illegible] extends slightly and lies down with the pillow area raised a little. For seven days she remains in bed, and for food she is given chicken, rice porridge, sugar, etc., while meat is forbidden. After seven days pass, she works as usual. The newborn is bathed daily for seven days. A midwife-like person [illegible] takes care of them. Notably, the baby hair is not shaved, and they use the baby hair for life. The bathwater during those seven days is disposed of below after removing the floor tiles. For the child's clothing, they use tubular sleeves.
