養生して生存させるべきである。もし吐瀉させれば、吐瀉とともに死んでしまうであろう。
病家は名医の言葉を信じた。初学の者は頻繁に
論じたが、詳細な議論をするまでもなく、病者はすでに死んでしまった。このような
場合、何の治療が適切であろうか。先生はどのような方剤を用いて治療されるのか。
私が言うには「備急円を用いて吐瀉させるべきである。
遅れれば救うことはできない」と。門人が言うには「このようでは名医の

言葉の通り、吐瀉とともに死んでしまう。そうであれば、このような者は
治療法がないということか」と。答えて言うには「座ってその死を看取るよりは、
駿剤を用いて万が一にも生存を期待する方が良いのではないか。故に荘子が
言うには『生を殺そうとする者は生かし、生を生かそうとする者は生かさない』
ということである。試しにこれを譬えてみよう。盗人がやって来て利刀を持ち、
汝を殺そうとする。汝は動かずにして殺されるのを見ているか。それとも

The patient's family trusted the renowned physician's words. Though the beginner
argued frequently, before detailed discussion could take place, the patient had already died. In such
