病家要論序
薬は病を治すための兵器であり、医師は病を退けるための将軍である。国が治まっているときは干戈を動かすことがなく、人が健康であるときは薬石を用いることがない。古今において良将がいて利兵を持たないことがないように、良医がいて神薬を持たないことがないのである。

Medicine is the weapon for treating illness, and the physician is the general who repels disease. When the country is well-governed, weapons of war are not deployed; when people are healthy, medicinal stones are not used. Throughout history, there has never been a good general without effective weapons, just as there has never been a good physician without divine medicines.
