仕置之儀死刑は不及見聞入墨は顔之内額
両頬と三所へ入敲は十ヲ位ゟ科之次第により
段々数多相成候由強く被敲候者は背中之皮
破れ血流れ申候其外鼻をそき候刑も有之
由に御座候
土地之儀真土之所多砂地之所も有之田は一向
無之畑斗にてはだが麦小麦麻等を重に作
り申候
草木之儀木は五葉之松多く花之咲ぬ桜
之木柏なとも有之其外雑木有之候得共委

格別珍敷草は見請不申都て花類は少く
梅桜なとも鉢植にいたし火床之側にさし置
漸花をさかせ申候
山川之儀格別高山は無之先ッは野原勝に御座候
川も場広に合候ては少キ方に御座候
禽獣之儀牛馬豕野牛綿羊など多く鶏
家鴨之類品々飼申候虎も邂逅には有之候由
鶴は見懸不申雁なとは夏之内斗居申候其

刑罰について、死刑は見聞きしていない。入れ墨は顔の中の額と両頬の三か所に入れる。鞭打ちは十回位から、罪の軽重により段々と回数が多くなる。強く打たれた者は背中の皮が破れ血が流れる。その他、鼻を削ぐ刑もあるということである。
土地について、真土の所が多く、砂地の所もある。田は全くなく、畑ばかりで蕎麦、麦、小麦、麻等を主に作っている。
草木について、木は五葉の松が多く、花の咲かない桜の木、柏なども有る。その他雑木もあるが、詳しくは

覚えていない。竹は全くない。草も色々あるが、特別珍しい草は見当たらない。すべて花類は少なく、梅、桜なども鉢植えにして暖房の側に置いて、ようやく花を咲かせている。
山川について、特別高い山はなく、主に野原が多い。川も場所の広さに比べては少ない方である。
鳥獣について、牛、馬、豚、野牛、綿羊などが多く、鶏、家鴨の類を色々飼っている。虎もたまにはいるということである。鶴は見かけない。雁などは夏の間だけいる。その他はすべて日本と変わったことはない。

Regarding punishments, I have not seen or heard of the death penalty being carried out. Tattooing is done in three places on the face: the forehead and both cheeks. Flogging starts from about ten lashes, with the number gradually increasing according to the severity of the crime. Those who are beaten severely have their back skin torn and blood flowing. There are also punishments involving cutting off the nose.
Regarding the land, there are many places with good soil, and some sandy areas as well. There are no rice fields at all, only dry fields where they mainly cultivate buckwheat, barley, wheat, hemp, and other crops.
Regarding vegetation, there are many five-needle pines among the trees, as well as cherry trees that do not bloom, oak trees, and other miscellaneous trees, though I do not

remember them in detail. There is no bamboo at all. There are various grasses, but I did not see any particularly rare ones. Flowering plants are generally few, and even plum and cherry trees are kept in pots and placed beside heating sources to barely make them bloom.
Regarding mountains and rivers, there are no particularly high mountains, and it is mainly plains. Rivers are also relatively few compared to the vastness of the area.
Regarding birds and beasts, there are many cattle, horses, pigs, wild cattle, sheep, and they raise various types of chickens and domestic ducks. There are occasionally tigers as well. I did not see any cranes. Geese and such are only there during summer. Everything else is no different from Japan.
