という所へ着いたところ、家数二百軒程あり、この所にも「タタール」人が住居していました。そこから「ベルマ」という所まで行ったところ、銀三郎が病気になったので同所に残置き、追って快気次第後から差し送ってくれるよう付き添いの者へ頼んでおき、残り十人で出立しました。「カザン」という所へ着き、この所にもロシアの代官並びに「タタール」人が住居しており、家数およそ二千軒程もある賑やかな所で、雑穀や毛皮類も多くあるとのことでした。同所を出立し、ロシア国の内の「モスクワ」という所へ着きました。この所には国王の親類が住居しているとのことを付き添いの者が申し聞かせ、一日逗留して出立しました。右の「エカテリンブルク」を出立した日からおよそ四十八、九日の間を経て、同四月二十七日

と覚えておりますが、十人ともロシアの国都「ペテルブルク」へ着きました。左太夫、清蔵、銀三郎は前書の通り病気のため途中に居残り、その後どのようになったか、出会うことはありませんでした。ところが「ペテルブルク」に着いた上で代官所へ相届した様子と見受けられ、私たちを代官の宅に置き、近日国王の前へ差し出すので、その節は日本姿で罷り出るよう国王から申し付けがあったとのことで、十人の者へ日本仕立ての繻子の着物並びに羽織等を代官を以て与えられたので貰い受けました。同五月十五日代官所へ呼び出され、明日国王の前へ差し出す旨申し渡しがあり、翌十六日右の代官同道で私たちならびに民之助、辰蔵、初次郎

Departing that place, we arrived at a place called "Moscow" within the Russian nation. The accompanying officials told us that relatives of the king lived at this place. We stayed one day and then departed. From the day we left the aforementioned "Yekaterinburg," approximately forty-eight or forty-nine days passed, and on the 27th day of the same fourth month,

Sadayū, Seizō, and Ginzaburō remained behind on the journey due to illness as previously described, and we did not meet them afterward—I do not know what became of them. However, it appeared that upon our arrival in St. Petersburg, we were reported to the magistrate's office, and we were placed at the magistrate's residence. We were told that the king had ordered that we would soon be brought before him, and that on that occasion we should appear in Japanese attire. Therefore, Japanese-made silk clothing and haori jackets were given to the ten of us through the magistrate, which we received.
