当六月八日無人島出帆西北を目当に
乗出し申候右之通神仏不思議之加護に預る
ものとも故海上も無恙昼夜七八日馳せ候て一つの
島へはせ付申候此島は八島より三十五里南に当り
青（ヲウ）ケ島と申候て十四年以前迄は八丈島より四百人計
の人参居候処硫黄島にて俄に燃出中々遁れ
往へき方も無之候に付皆々八丈しまへ罷帰焼終候て
のち亦々洋中難船助けのため拾弐人参居候由
此内三人は三年以前穀物を取に八丈島へ帰候処
殊外汐筋荒き所にて容易く渡海不相成以今
不帰来当時は漸八九軒の小家に人も九人住居
罷在候島廻り四里計も有之候得共穀物少しも
生せす殊に鼠多く候て種を喰絶候ゆへさといも
はかりを少々宛作り給居申候此所に三十日計も居候処
殊に天気も宜敷候に付七月九日青ケ島出帆候
悉難所に御座候処少し之滞も無之三十五里の
海上朝五ツ時分に乗出七ツ前八丈へ着岸仕候

日を選び方角を占って、14人の者が力を合わせ、
当年6月8日に無人島を出帆し、西北を目当てに
乗り出しました。このように神仏の不思議な加護を受けた
者たちであったため、海上も無事で、昼夜7、8日航海して一つの
島へ辿り着きました。この島は八丈島より35里南にあたり、
青ヶ島と申しまして、14年以前までは八丈島より400人ほど
の人が住んでいましたが、硫黄島で俄かに噴火が起こり、とても逃れ
行くべき方法もなかったため、皆々八丈島へ帰り、焼け終わった
後、また々洋中での難船救助のため12人が住んでいるとのことです。
この内3人は3年以前に穀物を取りに八丈島へ帰ったところ、
特に潮流の荒い所であって容易に渡海することができず、今に至るまで
帰って来ておらず、当時はわずか8、9軒の小家に人も9人が住居
しておりました。島回り4里ほどもありましたが、穀物は少しも
生えず、特に鼠が多くて種を食い絶やすため、里芋
ばかりを少しずつ作って暮らしておりました。この所に30日ほども居たところ、
特に天気も良かったため、7月9日に青ヶ島を出帆しました。
すべて難所でございましたが、少しの滞りもなく35里の
海上を朝五ツ時分に乗り出し、七ツ前に八丈へ着岸いたしました。

They selected an auspicious day and divined the direction, and the fourteen men joined forces to
depart from the uninhabited island on June 8th of that year, setting out with the northwest as their destination.
As they were people who had received such miraculous divine protection,
their voyage was safe, and after sailing day and night for seven or eight days, they reached an
island. This island was located thirty-five ri south of Hachijō Island and
was called Aoga-shima. Until fourteen years prior, about four hundred people
from Hachijō Island had lived there, but when a volcanic eruption suddenly occurred, there was no way to escape,
so everyone returned to Hachijō Island. After the burning ended,
twelve people came to live there again to rescue shipwrecked sailors in the ocean.
Of these, three people had returned to Hachijō Island three years earlier to obtain grain, but
the tidal currents were extremely rough in that area, making sea travel difficult, and they had not
returned to this day. At present, only nine people lived in
about eight or nine small houses. Though the island's circumference was about four ri, no grain
grew at all. Moreover, there were many rats that devoured the seeds, so they could only
cultivate small amounts of taro to sustain themselves. After staying at this place for about thirty days,
the weather became particularly favorable, so they departed Aoga-shima on July 9th.
Though the entire route consisted of dangerous waters, without any delays they crossed the thirty-five ri of
ocean, setting out at the fifth hour of morning and reaching Hachijō by before the seventh hour.
