思った「家君（父）は老いて陣にいる。どうしてこれを捨てて遠く敵を
追うことができようか」そこで陣に戻った。正清は帰って義朝に告げて言った「八郎
君が兵を用いるのは雷鳴のようです。臣は板東にあって接戦すること少なくあり
ませんが、未だこのような猛烈さを見たことがありません」義朝は言った「汝は彼の
名を聞いて畏れるのみ。我が自ら往ってこれを試そう」そこで須藤

俊通等二百騎を率いて進んだ。為朝は返り戦った。義朝は呼んで言った「我は
宣旨を奉じて来た。汝はたやすく降らずして弓を汝の兄に向ける
のは何故か」為朝は言った「大人（父）は院宣を受けて為朝等に
拒ませている。また弓を兄に向けるのは父に敵するのとどちらが重いか」
義朝は言葉に詰まった。衆を指揮して疾進した。為朝は退き避けた。義朝は馬を荘厳
院門に立てた。為朝は望み見て矢をつがえて将に放とうとした。やがて
思った「父はここにあり、兄は彼処にある。どうして勝敗が
互いに相救護する約があることを知ろうか」とついに止めて
射なかった。敵兵は頻りに進んだ。透間主計は義朝の属士斎藤実盛と
戦って害された。高間三郎四郎もまた金子家忠に殺された。須

Toshimichi and others with two hundred horsemen and advanced. Tametomo turned back to fight. Yoshitomo called out and said, "I have
come bearing imperial edicts. Why do you not readily surrender but instead turn your bow against your own brother?"
Tametomo said, "My father has received imperial commands and has made Tametomo and others
resist. Moreover, which is worse - turning the bow against a brother or opposing one's father?"
Yoshitomo was at a loss for words. He directed his forces to advance rapidly. Tametomo retreated and avoided them. Yoshitomo positioned his horse at the Shōgon
Temple gate. Tametomo saw this from afar and nocked an arrow, about to shoot. Soon he
thought, "Father is here, brother is there. How could they know that victory or defeat
has a pact of mutual rescue and protection?" Finally he refrained and
