ス爲朝亦二十三騎ヲ䘮フテ猶且固守ス義朝乃チ火
ヲ上風ニ縦ツ風烈シク火熾ニシテ宮中大ニ亂ル上皇
宮ヲ出ツ爲義諸士ヲ率テ從フ歒追擊ス爲朝屢〻反リ
戰フ歒兵畏レテ敢テ進マス爲朝莊嚴門ヲ過キ箙ニ
一矢ヲ餘マス乃￣チ矢ヲ抜キ射テ門柱ヲ穿￣ツ テ曰￣ク後人ヲ
シテ吾カ筋力ヲ知ラシメント上皇ニ從テ如意山ニ赴
ク上皇親諭シテ之ヲ散遣ス爲義留リ護セント請フ許
サス皆泣ヲ揮テ散ス爲義東國ニ奔ラントス途ニシテ

現代語訳

藤家季は家忠を射ようとした。為朝はこれを止めて言った「彼は無双の
国士である。どうしてこれを殺すに忍びようか。我が勝ちを得れば、他日我が用と
なすであろう」敵兵は勝ちに乗じて争い進んだ。為朝は家季に言った
「敵兵は多い。我が兵は一をもって百に当たるとはいえ、ついに勝つ
ことはできまい。我はその元帥を射て、その士気を奪おう」家季は言った
「過ちなきことができましょうか」為朝は言った「弟よ、我がなすところを見よ」
そこで射て義朝の兜の臍（正面中央の飾り）を貫き、門扉をも貫いた。義朝は大いに驚き
呼んで言った「八郎の射はいまだ精確とは言えない」為朝は言った「できないのではなく、
しないだけである。もし許されるならばすぐに甲冑の兜をも貫こう。ただ阿兄（義兄）の命の
ままにならよう」そこで矢をつがえた。深巣清国が進んで義朝を庇った。

弦に応じて倒れた。義朝が率いる士はことごとく関東の驍勇（勇猛な兵）であり、
精兵が互いに進んだ。為朝は射て空矢がなかった。敵兵の死傷は数を知らず
（数え切れないほど）であった。為朝もまた二十三騎を失いながら、なおかつ固守した。義朝はそこで火を
上風（風上）に放った。風は激しく火は盛んとなり、宮中は大いに乱れた。上皇は
宮を出た。為義は諸士を率いて従った。敵はこれを追撃した。為朝は度々返り
戦った。敵兵は畏れて敢えて進まなかった。為朝は荘厳門を過ぎ、箙に
一矢を残した。そこで矢を抜いて射て門柱を貫き、言った「後の人に
我が筋力を知らしめよう」と。上皇に従って如意山に赴いた。
上皇は親しく諭してこれを散遣（解散させ）した。為義は留まって護ろうと請うた。許
されなかった。皆泣きながら散った。為義は東国に奔ろうとした。途中で

Tō Iesue was about to shoot Ietada. Tametomo stopped him and said, "He is a peerless
man of the nation. How could I bring myself to kill him? If we gain victory, he shall serve
our purpose another day." The enemy forces, riding the momentum of victory, pressed forward in competition. Tametomo said to Iesue,
"The enemy troops are numerous. Even though our men can each take on a hundred, we ultimately cannot
win. I will shoot their commander and strip away their fighting spirit." Iesue said,
"Can you be sure not to miss?" Tametomo said, "Brother, watch what I do."
He then shot, piercing the central ornament of Yoshitomo's helmet and then piercing through the gate door behind it. Yoshitomo, greatly startled,
called out, "Hachirō's shot is not yet precise!" Tametomo replied, "It is not that I cannot,
I simply choose not to. If permitted, I would pierce through armor and helmet alike. I merely follow
my elder brother's commands." Then he nocked an arrow. Fukaso Kiyokuni stepped forward to shield Yoshitomo.

He fell at the release of the bowstring. The warriors led by Yoshitomo were all fierce and brave men of the eastern provinces,
and these elite soldiers pressed forward in turns. Tametomo shot without a single wasted arrow. The enemy's dead and wounded were
beyond counting. Tametomo too lost twenty-three horsemen, yet still held his position firmly. Yoshitomo then set fire
to the windward side. The wind was fierce and the fire blazed intensely, throwing the palace into great disorder. The Retired Emperor
left the palace. Tame-yoshi led his warriors and followed. The enemy pursued and attacked. Tametomo repeatedly turned back to
fight. The enemy soldiers were afraid and dared not advance. Tametomo passed through the Shōgon Gate, with
one arrow remaining in his quiver. He drew the arrow, shot it through the gate pillar, and said, "Let those who come after
know the strength of my sinews." He then followed the Retired Emperor toward Mount Nyoi.
The Retired Emperor personally instructed them and dispersed and dismissed his followers. Tameyoshi requested to remain and protect him. He was not
permitted. All wiped away their tears and dispersed. Tameyoshi attempted to flee to the eastern provinces. Along the way,
