藤家季は家忠を射ようとした。為朝はこれを止めて言った「彼は無双の
国士である。どうしてこれを殺すに忍びようか。我が勝利を得れば、他日我が用と
しよう」敵兵は勝に乗じて争い進んだ。為朝は家季に謂って言った
「敵兵は多く、我が兵は一つを以て百に当たるといえども、ついに勝つ
ことはできない。吾はその元帥を射て、その魂魄を奪おう」家季は言った
「誤ることなくできようか」為朝は言った「弟よ、吾の為す所を見よ」
そこで射て義朝の兜の臍を穿ち、門扉を貫いた。義朝は大いに驚き
呼んで言った「八郎よ、射ることは未だ精しくない」為朝は言った「できないのではない。

戦った。敵兵は畏れて敢えて進まなかった。為朝は荘厳門を過ぎ、箙に
一矢を残すのみとなった。そこで矢を抜き、射て門柱を穿って言った「後人を
して吾が筋力を知らしめよう」と。上皇に従って如意山に赴いた。
上皇は親しく諭してこれを散遣した。為義は留まり護そうと請ったが許

Sudō Ieki was about to shoot Ietada. Tametomo stopped him and said, "He is a peerless
man of the realm. How could I bear to kill him? If I achieve victory, I shall make use of him
another day." The enemy forces pressed forward, riding on their advantage. Tametomo said to Ieki,
"The enemy forces are numerous. Though our troops may face a hundred with one, we cannot
ultimately achieve victory. I shall shoot their commander and rob him of his spirit." Ieki said,
"Can you do so without error?" Tametomo said, "Younger brother, observe what I do."
Then he shot, piercing the center ornament of Yoshitomo's helmet and penetrating the gate doors. Yoshitomo was greatly startled and
called out, saying, "Hachirō, your shooting is not yet precise." Tametomo said, "It is not that I cannot do it.
I simply do not do it. If permitted, even between the gaps in armor, it would be entirely at elder brother's
command." Then he nocked an arrow. Fukasu Kiyokuni advanced to shield Yoshitomo.

He fell in response to the bowstring. All the warriors that Yoshitomo led were valiant fighters from the eastern provinces.
Fierce soldiers pressed forward against each other. When Tametomo shot, there were no wasted arrows. The enemy's dead and wounded were beyond
counting. Tametomo also lost twenty-three horsemen, yet still maintained his firm defense. Yoshitomo then set
fire upwind. The wind was fierce and the fire blazed intensely, throwing the palace into great disorder. The Retired Emperor
left the palace. Tameyoshi led various retainers and followed. The enemy pursued. Tametomo frequently turned back to
fight. The enemy soldiers were afraid and dared not advance. Tametomo passed through Shōgon Gate, with only
one arrow remaining in his quiver. Then he drew the arrow and shot, piercing a gate pillar, and said, "Let future generations
know my strength." He accompanied the Retired Emperor to Nyoisan.
The Retired Emperor personally instructed and dismissed them. Tameyoshi requested to remain and protect him, but was not
