　　ルトス其事跡殆ド審ナラサル者ニ似タリ頃琉
　　球國史ヲ見ルニ爲朝永萬元年琉球ニ至リ舜天
　　ヲ生シコトヲ記シテ頗ル審ナリ而シテ國史
　　亦永萬元年爲朝鬼島ニ至ルト記レリ我國古昔
　　琉球ヲ呼テ鬼島ト云乃￣チ審ニ知ル爲朝琉球ニ

現代語訳

ることとする。その事跡はほとんど明確ではないもののようであった。近頃、琉球国史を見るに、為朝は永万元年に琉球に至り、舜天を生んだことを記して頗る詳細である。そして国史はまた永万元年に為朝が鬼島に至ると記している。我が国では古くから琉球を呼んで鬼島と言った。すなわち詳細に知ることができるのは、為朝が琉球に至って留まること数年、後に大島に帰り自殺したことである。そもそも為朝は、ただ勇力が絶世であるのみならず、その孝友慈愛は、あるいは古の名将をもって論ずべきである。為朝は不幸にしてその志を内国において遂げることはできなかったけれども、琉球三十六世六百九十年の基を開き、統系が承継されて今日に至っている。その功績もまた盛んではないだろうか。天がその後裔を絶やさないのは、まことに理由があることなのだ。

...and entered Ryukyu. The details of these events seem to be largely unclear. Recently, upon examining the History of the Ryukyu Kingdom, it records in considerable detail that Tametomo arrived in Ryukyu in the first year of Eiman (1165) and fathered Shunten. The national history also records that in the first year of Eiman, Tametomo reached Onigashima (Demon Island). In our country, Ryukyu was called Onigashima from ancient times. Thus we can know in detail that Tametomo arrived in Ryukyu and remained for several years, then later returned to Ōshima and committed suicide. Now, Tametomo was not only possessed of unparalleled martial prowess, but his filial piety, loyalty to friends, and compassionate love should perhaps be discussed alongside the famous generals of antiquity. Though Tametomo was unfortunate and unable to fulfill his ambitions within Japan proper, he established the foundation for thirty-six generations and 690 years of Ryukyu rule, with the royal lineage continuing to the present day. Are not his achievements also magnificent? That Heaven has not allowed his lineage to be cut off truly has good reason.
