現代語訳

夷が多く内附して来貢した。後に或いは往々にして離叛し、長寛・承安の際、十二島中内属する者が五つ、属さない者があった。その属さない者の多くは鬼界以南であった。後に天孫氏二十五紀の裔に至り、風俗が頽廃し、四方の按司が割拠して雄を争い、権臣利勇が国政を専らにし、君を弑して自ら国君と称した。これより盗賊が蜂起し、国内が大いに乱れた。浦添の按司尊敦が兵を起こし利勇を誅した。国人が尊敦を推戴して君とした。これを舜天王とする。天孫氏の裔が世々相承けること凡そ一万七千八百二年であった。

歴史が上世を記すものは大抵後人の想像に出て、多くはこれを荒唐に托す。琉球国初の記事もまたその轍を同じくした。然りと雖も、古昔既に宇留麻・南倭の称があることをもって稽えれば、蓋しその建国の久しきを知るべきである。

始祖舜天王
舜天王の姓は源、名は尊敦、実に清和天皇の後胤にして、父は為朝、母は八大里按司の妹である。仁安元年丙戌に生まれる。父為朝は鎮西八郎と称す。実に検非違使為義の第八子である。身の長け七尺、志気豪爽、眼に双稜あり、猿臂でよく射る。年十三で豊後に居り、数々九国の諸大姓と戦い、十五歳の頃、遂にことごとく九国を伏す。朝廷は太宰府に敕してこれを討たせ

Many barbarians submitted and came to pay tribute. Later, some occasionally rebelled, and during the Chokan and Joan eras, among the twelve islands, five were subordinate while some were not. Most of those that were not subordinate were south of Kikaijima. Later, when it came to the descendants of the twenty-fifth generation of the Tenson clan, customs deteriorated, aji (local lords) from all directions occupied territories and competed for supremacy, and the powerful minister Riyū monopolized national government, assassinated the ruler, and proclaimed himself the national sovereign. From this time, bandits arose everywhere and the country fell into great disorder. Aji Sontoku of Urasoe raised an army and executed Riyū. The people supported Sontoku and made him their ruler. This was King Shunten. The descendants of the Tenson clan succeeded each other for approximately 17,802 years.

Historical records of ancient times are mostly based on later people's imagination and often entrust them to wild fantasy. The early records of the Ryukyu Kingdom also follow the same pattern. Nevertheless, since there were already the appellations Uruma and Nan-Wa in ancient times, when we examine this, we can surely know that the founding of the kingdom was long ago.

Founder King Shunten
King Shunten's surname was Minamoto and his given name was Sontoku. He was truly a descendant of Emperor Seiwa, his father was Tametomo, and his mother was the younger sister of the Ōzato Aji. He was born in the first year of Jin'an, hinoe-inu. His father Tametomo was called Chinzei Hachirō. He was truly the eighth son of Kebiishi Tameyoshi. He was seven feet tall, had a heroic and generous spirit, had double ridges in his eyes, had long arms like an ape, and was skilled at archery. At age thirteen he resided in Bungo, fought repeatedly with various powerful clans of the nine provinces, and by around age fifteen had completely subdued all nine provinces. The imperial court issued an edict to Dazaifu to attack him.
