death. The Ming Emperor commanded Shishō to succeed to the title and bestowed upon him the leather cap and court robes. In the 17th year, kanoe-tora (1410), he sent envoys to tribute to Ming and had Motoko and two others enter the Imperial Academy to study literature. King Sannan Wang Yingzu also frequently sent envoys to tribute to Ming. In the 18th year, kanoto-u (1411), he had Kontanmi and others tribute to Ming, and memorialized the Ming Emperor saying: "Ryukyu's Administrator Wang Mao has been assisting in government for many years. We request that Wang Mao be made Prime Minister and concurrently handle the duties of Administrator. Administrator Cheng Fu has been assisting in government for over forty years since the reign of the former King Satto, with diligent sincerity and without negligence. He is now eighty-one years old. We request that he be ordered to retire and return to his hometown." The Ming Emperor approved the report. In the 20th year, mizunoto-mi (1413), Motoko and others requested to return home to visit family. The Ming Emperor said: "It is truly admirable that people from distant lands come to study. To think of one's parents and return home is also human nature." He generously bestowed gifts, provided post-station transport to honor them, and also granted winter and summer clothing to the students.
In the 22nd year, kinoto-hitsuji (1415), the Ming Emperor enfeoffed Tarumē, the eldest son of King Sannan Wang Yingzu, as King of Sannan. Initially, King Sannan Shō-Satto had no heir, and on his deathbed he commanded his cousin Wang Yingzu to serve as regent over national affairs. The Ming Emperor enfeoffed Wang Yingzu as King of Sannan. His elder brother Tappuki plotted to assassinate his lord and usurp the throne. The various anji of each fortified village joined forces to attack Tappuki and execute him, then elevated the king's eldest son Tarumē to serve as regent over national affairs.
