帰りけんしばらく有て小船に乗りし者五六人
来りはれ〳〵#1をまねくにより此舟に乗れと云事
なるへしのりなば又いかなるうき目にあふ事

命なれは此上は彼船に乗べしと皆打連て乗
けれは喰物を籠に入来りて我にあたへける此喰
物と云は唐いもと里いもをゆでし物也船中に
ても追々にあたへけるものは大唐米にいもをませて

喰事させける扨舟をこき出し海上四日程。は
たり此国の城下と見へし所に着舟す後に
きけは南天竺之内からかにと云所と
かや此からかには町々長くつゞきて余程広き
里と見へし也かくて船の者壱人殊に上り斯
と届けたる体也所々役人らしき者弐人来り我
々廿人ともに連て城の門を入てげんくわと見へ
し所と至て頭と見へし人我々に向ひ日本人かと

帰って行った。しばらくして小船に乗った者が五六人やって来て、はるばると手招きをするので、この舟に乗れということなのだろう。乗ったならば、またどのような辛い目に遭うことか分からないと思ったが、どうせこうしても死ぬ運命であるなら、この上は彼らの船に乗ろうと、皆で連れ立って乗った。すると食べ物を籠に入れて持って来て、我々に与えてくれた。この食べ物というのは唐芋と里芋を茹でたものである。船中でも次々に与えてくれたものは、大唐米に芋を混ぜて

They returned. After a while, five or six people in a small boat came and beckoned to us from afar, so it seemed they were telling us to board this boat. We thought that if we boarded, we didn't know what kind of hardships we might face again, but since we were destined to die anyway, we decided that we should board their boat, and we all got on together. Then they brought food in baskets and gave it to us. This food consisted of sweet potatoes and taro that had been boiled. What they continued to give us on the boat was glutinous rice mixed with potatoes

for us to eat. Then they rowed the boat out and traveled on the sea for about four days, arriving at what appeared to be the castle town of this country. We later heard that this was a place called Karaka within South India. In this Karaka, the towns stretched on for a long distance, appearing to be quite a vast settlement. Thus one of the boat people went ashore specifically to report our arrival, it seemed. Officials from various places, two people who appeared to be government officials, came and took all twenty of us through the castle gate to what appeared to be an entrance hall, where a person who seemed to be a leader asked us, "Are you Japanese?"
