　殿様が参勤される年は、その御礼のため、暇をいただく年は在所への暇を仰せ付けられる時、その他すべて奉書による御召しで登城される時などは、門の当番は木綿の黒い法被を着用し、小頭加番は役羽織に絣の袴を着用して出勤し勤務する。小頭加番については、朝に殿様が登城される前から出勤し、九つ時（正午頃）に小頭代の平方から人を出して交代する。
　殿様がお帰りになった後、御役人の方々が退出された後に引き取る。

In years when the lord performs sankin duty, for the ceremonial thanks, or in years when leave is granted, when he receives orders to return to his domain, and in all other cases when he goes to the castle by official summons, the gate duty guards wear cotton black happi coats, and the assistant head guards wear role haori and kasuri hakama when reporting for duty. Regarding the assistant head guards, they report for duty from morning before the lord's departure to the castle, with replacements sent from the assistant head代's平方 at the ninth hour (around noon).
They withdraw after the lord returns and after all the officials have departed.
