英語訳

1. When the envoys reached the top of the stairs at the main entrance (gogenkan), the ōmetsuke (chief inspector) came out to guide them and they were seated in the lower section of the palace hall (denjō-no-ma). The retainers similarly took their places in the next room in line, while the lower officials remained in the courtyard in front of the main entrance. 1. For today's ceremony, those in attendance wore the following: those of jijū rank and above wore hitatare, those of fourth court rank wore hunting robes (kariginu), those of fifth rank wore daimon, those without official rank wore plain robes (sohō), and government officials wore cloth court dress (nunoe). 1. Lord Satsuma had ascended to the castle earlier and was also seated in the upper part of the lower section of the palace hall. 1. [The shogun] appeared in the great hall (ōhiroma) wearing hitatare court dress and bearing a wrapped tachi sword with crimson silk, a sword, and a ceremonial sword. 1. [The shogun] took his seat on the upper platform (which had three thick tatami mats wrapped in gold brocade, with tassels at the four corners, and included a cushion and sword rack), and curtains were hung around the seat. Behind the seat were the sword bearer and ceremonial sword bearer Lord Manabe Echizen-no-kami. The pages, attendants, and wardrobe officials remained in the wardrobe area, while in the lower section, Elder Lord Matsudaira Higo-no-kami and Lord Matsudaira Shimōsa-no-kami were seated, and the wakadoshiyori (junior elders) waited on the western veranda. 1. The Pine Room (Matsu-no-ma) was partitioned with screens, and the sliding doors between the rooms were removed. 1. Curtains were hung on the veranda side, and within them, the tozama daimyo of fourth court rank and above were seated in rows. 1. In the Third Room (San-no-ma), the hereditary retainers (fudai) and tozama daimyo were seated in rows. 1. On the southern veranda, the duty officials, ceremonial announcers, unit commanders, and government officials were lined up. 1. On the western veranda, the high-ranking families (kōke) were lined up. 1. Before the [shogun's] appearance, Lord Satsuma advanced to outside the screens of the Pine Room in the great hall to serve. 1. The chief envoy was guided by the ōmetsuke from the palace hall to the seating area arranged for both envoys on the southern side of the great hall. 1. Lord Satsuma appeared and had an audience within the threshold of the lower section. The ceremonial announcer made the presentation, and [the envoy] was summoned to the middle level, where it was stated that "[the shogun] is pleased that the Ryukyu people have been brought from such a distant place."
