現代語訳
その手筋を定めることができるのは、中山王の請いによるものである。私はこれを許し、国手に対して二つの碁石を置くことをもって対局させた。その碁を打つのを観察すると、その資質・才能は凡庸ではなく、工夫があり、長年にわたって歳月を積み重ねて真剣に学習し、力を尽くすことが久しければ、その上達は計り知れないものがあろう。惜しいことに、出会いの日数が浅く、別れの時期が近づいており、教え導くことが度々できないのが残念である。しかしながら、囲碁というものは陰陽変化の理に基づいており、国を治め人を治める方法がすべてここに存在している。その要点は千分の一寸の間にあるのみである。帰帆の後は努めて怠らず、心を専らにして志を致すならば、たとえ千里を隔てていても、なお咫尺のごとくである。この道は自分自身にあり、どうして外に求める必要があろうか。

The ability to determine these go techniques comes from the request of the King of Chuzan. I permitted this and had him play against the national master with a two-stone handicap. Observing his play, his natural talent and ability are not ordinary, showing ingenuity. If he accumulates years and months of sincere study and continues to exert his full efforts for a long time, his progress would be immeasurable. It is regrettable that our meeting has been brief and the time of parting draws near, so I cannot provide frequent instruction. However, the game of go is based on the principles of yin-yang transformation, and all methods of governing a country and ruling people exist within it. Its essence lies only in the space of a thousandth of an inch. After returning by ship, if you strive without negligence and concentrate your heart and will, then even though separated by a thousand ri, it will still be as if you were close at hand. This Way exists within oneself—why would one need to seek it outside?
