現代語訳
大宮司は心をかけていた小しほに逃げられ、その上、秘蔵していて預けておいた鴛鴦の鳥も逃がされ、ひとかたならず怒り心頭に発して、文太夫婦を柴漬けにする。
【大宮司の部下】
まったく腹立たしい親父めが。娘はどちらへ逃がしたのだ。
【文太】
もとより覚悟の上のこと。どのようにでもしてください。
【ねじがね婆】
無駄骨を折った。私まで腹が立つ。
もとより正直な文太夫婦は、娘のために罪に問われることになっても、少しも動じることなく、簀巻きにされて海に沈められようとする。男たちが手荒に扱う。
英語訳
The chief priest (Daigūji), having lost Oshio on whom he had set his heart, and furthermore having had his treasured mandarin ducks that he had entrusted to them escape, becomes extraordinarily enraged and orders Buntā and his wife to be bound with brushwood for execution.

What an utterly infuriating old man! Which way did he let his daughter escape?

This was something I was prepared for from the beginning. Do with me as you will.

All my efforts were wasted. Even I am furious.
The inherently honest couple Buntā and his wife, even though they are to be punished for their daughter's sake, show no fear whatsoever as they are wrapped in reed mats to be drowned in the sea. The men handle them roughly.
