現代語訳
皆々それぞれが自分の心より道に迷って、番町で提灯にはぐれたように、どこを当てとするということもなく、十二因縁の車、五道六道の底を巡り巡って、始まりもなく終わりもなく、途方に暮れていたところ、にわかに紫雲がたなびき、異香が薫じ、花が降り、音楽が聞こえ、大慈大悲の観世音菩薩が現れ給い、
「よきかな、よきかな。我はこれ、汝らを済度せんがために、有為無常の胎内に宿り、誕生した大次郎とは憂き世にあったのだ。真ことは十一面観世音とは我が事なり。三界の衆生、六道の凡夫、愛別離苦の波は、高潮満潮の井戸よりも深しといえども、無明随喜のためには一滴も零さず。いとしいも、かわいいも、欲しいも、惜しいも、嬉しいも、悲しいも、好いたも、嫌いも、怖いも、恐ろしいも、皆心の迷いなり。汝らが目に利口に見えるも、馬鹿に見ゆるも、色男に見ゆるも、不男に見えるも、閻魔に見えるも、地蔵に見えるも、心なり。今汝らに諸宗の旨を説いて、一々真の道へ導くべし。」

英語訳
Each person had lost their way according to their own hearts, like being separated from their lantern in Banchō district. With no destination in mind, they wandered round and round through the wheels of the twelve-link chain of causation and the depths of the five and six realms of existence, with no beginning and no end, completely at a loss. Just then, purple clouds suddenly spread across the sky, exotic fragrances wafted through the air, flowers fell from above, music could be heard, and the Great Compassionate Kannon (Avalokiteshvara) appeared, saying:
"Excellent, excellent! I am the one who, in order to save you all, dwelt in the womb of impermanence and was born as Daijirō in this sorrowful world. In truth, I am the Eleven-Faced Kannon. For the sentient beings of the three realms and the ordinary people of the six paths, though the waves of separation from loved ones may be deeper than the wells at high and full tide, for the sake of ignorance and joy, I do not spill even a single drop. Whether dear, cute, desired, precious, joyful, sad, loved, disliked, frightening, or terrifying—all are delusions of the heart. Whether you see others as clever or foolish, as handsome men or ugly men, as King Yama or as Jizō—it is all in your mind. Now I shall explain to you the principles of various schools and guide each of you to the true path."
