ふだらくや大次郎といふ

ねどしつかりともつている

いろ男にはうけとりにくき
むまれつきはつめいかと
おもへは三ぼんほどけが

ばかかとおもへば

如是我聞（このように私は聞いた）
昔々、浅草のあたりに
補陀落屋大次郎という
商売は何かは知らないが
しっかりと財産を持っている
身代ある主人の年は
普門品第二十五、六歳くらいで
まんざらではないけれども
色男としては受け取りにくい
生まれつき利口かと
思えば三分ほど足りず
馬鹿かと思えば
少々銭の
百ほどには
見えて、まあ十人
並みの男である
このごろは
いかなる大願によるものか
毎日毎日
大乗経を
書写していた

♪源氏の君が
雲林院で
行いを済まして
いらっしゃったが
きつい俺という
文句があろうぞ

あくびの

ないことだ
英語訳
Thus have I heard:
Long, long ago, in the vicinity of Asakusa,
there lived a man named Fudarakuya Daijirō.
What his business was, I do not know,
but he was a solid man of property,
a wealthy master whose age
was around twenty-five or twenty-six, like the twenty-fifth chapter of the Fumon-bon.
Though not entirely without merit,
he was hard to accept as a handsome man.
If you thought him clever by nature,
he fell short by about three parts;
if you thought him a fool,
he seemed to possess
about a hundred coins' worth
of sense, making him
an average man among ten.
These days,
driven by some great vow,
day after day
he was copying
the Mahāyāna sutras.

completed his religious practices
at Unrin'in Temple,
there would be complaints
about someone as severe as me
♪Ah, how tedious—
a night without
yawning,
how thoughtless
of me
