現代語訳
舞鶴屋の伝三は七両二分を出して、とんでもない厄介者を引きずり込んでしまった。かねてからひねくれた悪だくみをしたがる男なので、ふと悪い考えを思いついて、人魚の名を「魚人（うをんと）」と改め、近々に一番の花魁にするつもりである。
♪旦那さんはけしからぬ企みをなさる。すぐに叩かれそうなことだと、女髪結いが口の中でつぶやく。
♪奉公人には聞かれないかな。なんと、まあ一匹七両二分とは安いじゃないか。鰹でも大きいのはあることだ。
♪こいつを前に当てさせるのだ。髪は忍髷より横兵庫か、背が高く見えていい。
♪衣装の縫い物は田町の久林に頼んだから、上等なものができる。
英語訳
Denzō of Maizuru-ya paid seven ryō and two bu, but has dragged in quite a troublesome creature. Being a man who has always been inclined toward twisted schemes, he suddenly hits upon a wicked idea: he renames the mermaid "Gyojin" (Fish-person) and plans to make her his top courtesan soon.
♪The master is planning something outrageous. He'll surely be beaten for this, mutters the female hairdresser under her breath.
♪I hope the servants don't overhear. Well now, seven ryō and two bu for one [creature] is quite cheap, isn't it? Even large bonito cost more than that.
♪I'll put this one at the front. For her hair, a horizontal hyōgo style rather than shinobu would be better - it makes her look taller.
♪I've commissioned the costume sewing to Kyūrin of Tamachi, so it will be of fine quality.
