現代語訳
さて浦島と恋との仲は、品川の雪隠（せっちん）より麹町の井戸よりも深くなり、紺に紺を染め込んで瑠璃紺の恋路となった。二尺五寸の手拭い地頭でなければならない訳となり、ついに恋は身籠もった。それで浦島もいろいろと心を痛め、密かに産ませたところ、あさましいことに、人間と魚との間にできた子なので、頭は人で体は魚である。これがいわゆる人魚なのであろう。しかしながら、この事が龍王に知れるときは、両人の身の大事となるので、不憫ながら人知れずとある所へ捨てたのは、実に情けないことであった。
♪「ああ、俺も龍宮の者でなければ、哀れこの子を育て上げて、吹矢丁か品川、両国へ出せば、きっと評判を取るのに。仕方なく追い物を捨てるぞ。成人の後も必ず見世物師に見つからないように気をつけろ。」

Now the relationship between Urashima and Koi became deeper than the latrines of Shinagawa or the wells of Kōjimachi, dyeing indigo upon indigo to become a lapis lazuli-colored love path. It became a matter that required a two-shaku five-sun hand towel headship, and finally Koi became pregnant. So Urashima too suffered various heartaches and secretly had her give birth, but shamefully, since it was a child born between a human and a fish, its head was human but its body was fish. This must be what is called a mermaid. However, when this matter became known to the Dragon King, it would mean grave danger for both of them, so though it was pitiful, they abandoned the child secretly in a certain place - how heartless this was.
♪ "Ah, if I too were not of the Dragon Palace, I would pity this child and raise it up, and if I took it to Fukiya-chō, Shinagawa, or Ryōgoku, it would surely draw crowds. But I have no choice but to abandon this pursuit. Even after it grows up, be sure that the showmen never find it."
