現代語訳
ここに又、神田の八丁堀の辺りに釣船の平次という者があり、常に沖釣りを稼業にして暮らしていた。ある時、品川沖にて髪を乱した女の化け物が船中へ飛び込み、何かむしゃむしゃと食らうので、肝を潰したが、これはかの浦島と恋との間にできた人魚で、この沖にて人となり、早や年も十七、八にて、本当の人間なら色盛り。意地悪く顔は六甲に万菊と蜀江に群山富を紅白で塗りたくったごとくに美しければ、
「いくら体が魚でも、釣船の平次少し浮かれの色気見えて、満更でもないと思う。」
♪「私は人魚というて大事な身の者さ。どうぞ主の嫁さんにしてくんな。抱いて寝てくんな。」
「聞かないよ。」
♪「随分体でも寝様が魚だから、入る時はまた出る時はというから縁起が悪い。」
♪「この年になって女房選択は、貴様の体じゃあないか。お前のひれの学問者、主の口先の釣り針にかかっちゃああべこべた。」

Here again, in the vicinity of Hatchōbori in Kanda, there was a man called Heiji of the fishing boat, who made his living by constantly fishing offshore. One time, at Shinagawa offshore, a female monster with disheveled hair jumped into his boat and was munching on something, which frightened him terribly. This was the mermaid born between Urashima and Koi, who had taken human form in these waters, and was already seventeen or eighteen years old - if she were a real human, she would be in the prime of her beauty. With a mischievous face, she was as beautiful as if painted with rouge and white powder like Rokkō, Mangiku, Shokukō, and Gunzan-tomi.
