（割書：米人が発見した。○沖縄の気候、産物、地質等については後の条項で述べる。）○久高（クタカ）島は、山南の東海にあり、周囲三里ほどで、知念間切に属する。村落が多く、東南に一つの湾があるが、岩礁が多い。米、粟、海帯（アラメ）、および伊勢海老、五色魚、鰹、螺石を産する。海松（ウミマツ）が多い。○津堅（ツケン）島は、上記の北、中山の勝連（カツレン）崎の東南にあり、周囲三里ほどで、海松を産する。○浜（ハマ）島（また巴麻とも書く）、平安座（ヘアンザ）、宮城（ミヤグスク）、池島（また伊計とも書く）の四つの小島は、勝連崎の東北にあって、勝連間切に属する。

以上の諸島は、産物、言語が相似ており、皆沖縄の東岸にあって、沖縄に属する。

慶良間（ケラマ）島は、那覇の西海にあり、属島が十余ある。島人は肌の色が黒く、よく泳ぎ、多くが船乗りとして使われる。産物は、牛、馬、布、粟、子安貝、螺石で、海松は最良品である。山に鹿が多い。本島（唐人は東馬歯山という）は、周囲三里、間切が一つあり、渡嘉敷（トカシキ）という。属島中、前慶良間島は東にあり、座間味（ザマミ）島（唐人は西馬歯山という）は、周囲二里で、座間味間切がある。赤島は周囲一里半で、共に西北にある。その他は皆小島で、人家のない者が多い。○久米（クメ）島（また久米とも書く）は上記の西にあり、沖縄と清国を往来する船は、必ずこの山を航海の目標とする。周囲六里十二丁、間切が二つあり、仲里（ナカザト）、金城（カネグスク）という。烽火台を設置し、往来する船舶のために、のろし火を上げる。金城（カネグスク）山は百二十丈、南岸の金城湊は、日本の大船四、五艘が停泊できる。東岸の町屋入江は浅い。島人は美しく、言語は沖縄と同じである。五穀、木綿、紬布（ツムギ）、紙、蝋燭、草席（タタミオモテ）、鶏、豚、牛、馬、海螺、烏賊等がある。

以上の諸島は、沖縄の西にあり、言語も似ている。

(Marginal note: Discovered by Americans. ○The climate, products, geology, etc. of Okinawa will be discussed in later sections.) ○Kudaka Island is located in the eastern sea of Sannan, with a circumference of about three ri, and belongs to Chinen magiri. It has many villages and one bay to the southeast, but there are many rocky reefs. It produces rice, millet, kelp (arame), lobster, multicolored fish, bonito, and conch shells. There is much sea pine (coral). ○Tsuken Island is located northeast of the above, southeast of Katsuren Cape in Chuzan, with a circumference of about three ri, and produces sea pine. ○The four small islands of Hama Island (also written as Hama), Henza, Miyagusuku, and Ike Island (also written as Ikei) are located northeast of Katsuren Cape and belong to Katsuren magiri.

All the above islands have similar products and languages, are all on the eastern coast of Okinawa, and belong to Okinawa.

Kerama Islands are located in the western sea of Naha, with more than ten subsidiary islands. The islanders have dark skin, swim well, and many are employed as sailors. The products are cattle, horses, cloth, millet, cowrie shells, and conch shells, with sea pine being of the finest quality. There are many deer in the mountains. The main island (which the Chinese call Eastern Horse Tooth Mountain) has a circumference of three ri, with one magiri called Tokashiki. Among the subsidiary islands, Mae-Kerama Island is to the east, and Zamami Island (which the Chinese call Western Horse Tooth Mountain) has a circumference of two ri with Zamami magiri. Aka Island has a circumference of one and a half ri, both located to the northwest. The rest are all small islands, many without human habitation. ○Kume Island (also written as Kume) is located west of the above. Ships traveling between Okinawa and Qing China invariably use this mountain as a navigational landmark. With a circumference of six ri and twelve chō, it has two magiri called Nakazato and Kanegusuku. Signal fires are placed there, raising beacon fires for passing ships. Mount Kanegusuku is 120 jō high, and Kanegusuku Harbor on the south coast can accommodate four to five large Japanese ships. Machiya Inlet on the east coast is shallow. The islanders are beautiful, and their language is the same as Okinawan. They have the five grains, cotton, pongee cloth (tsumugi), paper, candles, grass mats (tatami covers), chickens, pigs, cattle, horses, conch shells, squid, etc.

All the above islands are located west of Okinawa, and their languages are also similar.
