The island, sometimes called Taiheizan. The main island has a circumference of about eleven ri, forms a somewhat triangular shape, with Setono Cape projecting to the north. There are many hidden reefs along the coast. It has four magiri: Oroka, Karimata, Shimoji, and Hirara, with many separate villages. The western port is called Harimizu, where ships can anchor. Mount Chiku is very high, with a base circumference of five to six ri and a pavilion called Hekiutei at the summit. The climate is very warm, the soil is quite fertile, and products grow abundantly. Rice is most plentiful, and tribute taxes are sent to Okinawa every May. The five grains, cattle, and horses are numerous. Fine linen (satsuma jōfu) and hemp kasuri are particularly high quality. It produces cotton cloth and grass mats, and produces red wine called Taihei-shu. ○Ikema is located northwest of Setono Cape, with a circumference of over one ri. Also, north of the cape is Ōtakami Island. ○Kurima Island is adjacent to the southwest of the main island, belonging to Shimoji magiri, with a circumference of one ri. ○Erabu Island is adjacent to the west of the main island, called Oku-no-Erabu, with a circumference of four and a half ri. ○Ukama Island (also called Shimoji Island) is adjacent to its west. ○Tarama Island is located between Miyako and Ishigaki, with a circumference of four ri. ○Mizuna Island is located northeast of Tarama and belongs to it, with a circumference of one ri.

All the above islands belong to Miyako.

Ishigaki Island is located west of Miyako, and together with Iriomote Island and over ten small islands, is collectively called Yaeyama. The main island has a circumference of sixteen and a half ri, also forms roughly a triangular shape, with Hirakubo Cape projecting far to the north. It has four magiri: Miyara, Ishigaki, Kabira, and Ōhama, with thirty-eight villages. Kabira is a port on the western shore where twenty to thirty large Japanese ships can anchor. The southern port, Misaki Harbor, cannot accommodate large ships. Mount Omoto in the southwest of the island has a height of 160 jō. The climate is very warm, and the land is even more fertile compared to Miyako. Rice is most abundant, and every May-June, together with Miyako, tribute is paid to Okinawa.
