湊、および西岸の和爾也泊（ワニヤトマリ）は、ともに大船の入港が困難である。物産には、碗豆（エンドウ）が多く、落花生が特に多い。砂糖を産出し、世に徳島糖と称する。その他、物産や風俗は、大体大島に似ている。島人の肌は黒い。○沖永良部（オキノエラブ）島は、上記の西南にある。沖永良部と称する。周囲十里半、知名、大城、徳時の三間切がある。和泊は、東岸の港で浅い。産物には砂糖があり、また特異な魚を産する。永良部鰻（エラブウナギ）という、細長く一丈ほど、干物にして薬とする《海蛇の大きなものである》。人物風俗は沖縄に似て、物産は大島に似ている。○与論（ヨロン）島は、上記の南にある。周囲三里五町、武幾也、阿賀佐（アカサ）の二村がある。西南の阿賀佐泊（アカサトマリ）は、港口が浅く、大船は入らない。砂糖を産出し、芭蕉、樫木が多い。西南は、沖縄の運天港に対している。

大隅（オオスミ）諸島　熊毛（クマゲ）、馭謨（ゴム）二郡の地《以下附録》
種子（タネガ）島は、周囲三十七里半、島の形は南北に長く、大隅の南海にあって、その熊毛郡の地である。西に馬毛（マゲ）島があり、小島で、同郡に属する。屋久（ヤク）島は、種子島の西南にあり、馭謨郡の地である。周囲十六里余、島の形は円い。南端の元見（モトミ）山は、高さ六百三十五丈ある。口永良部（クチノエラブ）島は、上記の西にある。口永良部と称し、馭謨郡に属する。周囲六里半、島の形は東西に長い。山の高さ二百丈余。

竹島は、薩摩の南、屋久島の北にある。西に硫黄（イオウ）島があり、噴火山で、二百三十五丈、常に煙霧が絶えない。また西に

The port, as well as Waniyatomari on the west coast, are both difficult for large ships to enter. Among the products, peas are abundant, and peanuts are especially plentiful. It produces sugar, known in the world as Tokushima sugar. Other products and customs generally resemble those of Oshima. The islanders have dark skin. ○ Okinoerabu Island lies to the southwest of the above. It is called Okinoerabu. Circumference: ten and a half ri, with three magiri: China, Oshiro, and Tokutoki. Wadomari is a shallow port on the east coast. Among its products is sugar, and it also produces unusual fish. There is the Erabu eel, slender and about one jō long, which is dried and used as medicine (it is a large sea snake). The people and customs resemble those of Okinawa, while the products resemble those of Oshima. ○ Yoron Island lies to the south of the above. Circumference: three ri five chō, with two villages: Bukiya and Akasa. Akasatomari in the southwest has a shallow harbor entrance where large ships cannot enter. It produces sugar, and has abundant banana plants and oak trees. To the southwest, it faces Unten Port in Okinawa.

Osumi Islands - Territory of Kumage and Gomu counties (Appendix follows below)
Tanegashima has a circumference of thirty-seven and a half ri. The island's shape extends north-south, located in the southern sea of Osumi, and belongs to Kumage County. To the west lies Mageshima, a small island belonging to the same county. Yakushima lies to the southwest of Tanegashima and belongs to Gomu County. Circumference: over sixteen ri, with a round island shape. Motomiyama at the southern tip has a height of 635 jō. Kuchinoerabujima lies to the west of the above. It is called Kuchinoerabu and belongs to Gomu County. Circumference: six and a half ri, with an island shape extending east-west. Mountain height: over 200 jō.

Satsuma Islands - Territory of Kawanabe County
Takeshima lies south of Satsuma and north of Yakushima. To the west lies Iōjima, a volcanic island 235 jō high, with smoke and mist constantly rising. Also to the west
