現代語訳

舟

貢舶の様式は、だいたい福州の鳥船のようなものである。船の両脇に櫓を設け、左右に各二つずつ。船の長さは八
丈余り、幅は二丈五、六尺。前の明の洪武・永楽年間には、皆海舟を賜った。後に使臣が
自ら工料を備えて、福州において改造することを請うた。今、本国の船大工も、また自ら様式通りに造ることができる。
その各島への往来・通載の船は、大小すべて尖底である。底板は鱗のように重ねられている。太
平山船は、欄干に装飾を加えているのが特徴である。故にこれを図示する。小船はすべて独木を刳り抜いて作る。
極めて軽快である。村民や漁戸はすべてこれを用いる。一艘では積載に耐えない場合は、二艘を並べて使用する。

Ships

The style of tribute ships is roughly like the bird ships of Fuzhou. Oars are installed on both sides of the ship, two on each left and right side. The ship length is over eight
jo, width is two jo five to six shaku. Previously during the Ming Hongwu and Yongle eras, sea vessels were all bestowed by the emperor. Later envoys
requested to prepare their own construction materials and rebuild them in Fuzhou. Now the shipwrights of this country can also build them according to proper specifications.
The ships used for travel and transport between the various islands all have pointed bottoms, both large and small. The bottom planks overlap like scales. The Tai-
heizan ships are distinguished by decorative railings added as ornamentation. Therefore I illustrate them here. Small boats are all made by hollowing out single logs.
They are extremely light and swift. Village people and fishing households all use them. When one boat cannot bear the load, they lash two together for use.
