獣には牛・馬・羊・豚・犬・猫・鹿・猿・山猪がいる。虎・兎・獐はいない。《割書：明の一統志には、その土産に熊・羆・豺・狼がいると言う。今考えるに皆これなし。》

家畜には鶏・鴨・鵞がいる。異畜には太和鶏がいる。常鶏に比して特に小さい。短足長尾。種は七島に出づ。

禽には雀・烏・鳩・鷺・鴎・鳬・鵯・班鳩・緑鳩《割書：十二月に来る》・野鳩・鶉・鴗《割書：俗に神鳥と呼ぶ》・田鳥・雉・鶺鴒・杜鵑・鴛鴦がいる。燕は七月に来る。人屋には巣くわない。鷹は九月中、東北風に従って外島から飄り来る。雁は偶々これあり。恒に至らず。鶴は或いは一つあり。亦これを見ることは希なり。異鳥に古哈魯等がある。

【古哈魯（クカロ）】金黄の毛羽あり。長觜短尾。四月に鳴く。

【麻石（マシ）】翼羽は緑色。白眉。九月に来る。又【伊石求子（イシキウシ）】麻石に似る。

【烏鳳】一名王母鳥。四月に来る。

【恨煞（ヘンサア）】毛羽は鷹に似て稍小さい。八月に来る。

【容蕋】翼は灰褐色。黒頭。八月に来る。

【石求読（シキウト）】毛羽は雀に似る。十月に来る。春乃ち鳴く。

【莫読吏（モトリ）】緑毛。十月に来る。

虫には鼠・蝙蝠・蝎虎がいる。声を作すこと雀のごとし。冬夏皆然り。蜥蜴は水池の中に生ず。紅腹。背に金光あり。又四脚の小青蛇あり。常にこれを見る。国中の蛇は最も毒なり。九月中に毎に出づ。人を傷つければ人は立ちに斃る。《割書：前使録に云う。その蛇は人を傷つけずと。未だ然らず。》蚊

英語訳

Among beasts there are cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, dogs, cats, deer, monkeys, and wild boars. There are no tigers, rabbits, or roe deer. *[Marginal note: The Ming Yitongzhi states that among local products there are bears, brown bears, jackals, and wolves. Upon current investigation, none of these exist.]*

Among domestic animals there are chickens, ducks, and geese. Among exotic livestock there are Taihe chickens. Compared to ordinary chickens they are particularly small. Short legs and long tails. The breed originates from the Seven Islands.

Among birds there are sparrows, crows, pigeons, herons, gulls, ducks, bulbuls, spotted doves, green doves *[marginal note: come in the twelfth month]*, wild pigeons, quails, and 鴗 *[marginal note: commonly called divine birds]*, field birds, pheasants, wagtails, cuckoos, and mandarin ducks. Swallows come in the seventh month. They do not nest in human dwellings. Hawks come drifting from outer islands following the northeast winds in mid-ninth month. Wild geese occasionally appear. They do not come regularly. Cranes sometimes appear singly. It is also rare to see them. Among exotic birds there are kokaro and others.

**Kokaro**: Has golden-yellow plumage. Long beak, short tail. Sings in the fourth month.

**Mashi**: Wing feathers are green colored. White eyebrows. Comes in the ninth month. Also **Ishikiushi** resembles the mashi.

**Black Phoenix**: Also called Queen Mother Bird. Comes in the fourth month.

**Hensaa**: Plumage resembles a hawk but is somewhat smaller. Comes in the eighth month.

**Yōsui**: Wings are gray-brown colored. Black head. Comes in the eighth month.

**Shikiuto**: Plumage resembles sparrows. Comes in the tenth month. Sings in spring.

**Motori**: Green plumage. Comes in the tenth month.

Among insects there are rats, bats, and geckos. They can make sounds like sparrows. This is so in both winter and summer. Lizards live in water ponds. Red belly. Have golden luster on their backs. There are also small blue snakes with four legs. These are commonly seen. The snakes of this country are extremely venomous. They emerge regularly in mid-ninth month.
