## 産物のこと
**金山**
松前の所在する島々のうち、センケン山・クンヌイ山・ホロ山などは様々な書物に記載されているが、いずれも「芝下金」と呼ばれるもので、土砂の中に混じった砂金である。金脈そのものは存在しない。また「ウラカハ」と呼ばれる場所には金山の跡があり、掘ればきっと産出するだろうと思われる。そのほかエリモ辺り、ラツユ島などにもある。また深山にもあるだろうが、いまだ開かれていない大国であるため、詳細な探索には及びがたい。機会を得て達成すべきであろう。
**銀山**
古来より銀山の話はない。「ガラタミ山」「カフヲツフ山」などにあるとされる。西蝦夷は深山が多く、奥の方が気になるところであるが、私はまだそこに至っていないので、風説（伝聞の情報）を上げることは難しい。
**銅山**
東蝦夷地シヘツの奥山にある。また箱館近辺の山にある。
**鉛山**
見市村の奥にあるラホマ嶽が最上（最良）とされる。先年、江指村の者が掘ったときには、一か年に三百個ほど産出した。そのほか赤神村・江指村などにもある。
**鉄山**
箱館近辺の大森村・石崎村などにある。そのほか諸所に多い。
**黄銅**
「メソスイ」「ヲヽス」「トロフ」と呼ばれる島にある。この金属は日本では見られないもので、生のままで金色をしている。銅でありながら真鍮に似た性質のようである、と（ロシア人または外国人の）赤人が海を渡って私に詳しく語ってくれた。
**余糧（備蓄食糧）**
エトロウ（択捉）島の「ショツネチヤ」と呼ばれる場所にある。貯えておいて、時々の糧（食糧）として食事に用いる。色は白く、餅のようで、味は甘い。この島に渡海したとき、友船（連れの船）と別れ、米も味噌もなく、草の根を炊いてこの土（食物）を入れて食事としたところ、非常に軽やかで味もよいものであった。
**碗青（わんせい）**
シコタン（色丹）島より取り寄せるもので、珍しい品であることから、目利きの者たちが衆評・吟味した結果、「仏頭香」と——（次頁へ続く）

## On Local Products
**Gold Mines**
Among the islands where Matsumae is located, Senken Mountain, Kunnui Mountain, Horo Mountain, and others are recorded in various writings, but all of these yield what is called "shibashita-kin" (sub-surface gold) — that is, placer gold mixed within soil and sand. No actual gold veins exist. There is also the site of a former gold mine at a place called "Urakawa," and it seems likely that gold would be found if one were to dig there. There are also deposits around Erimo and on Ratsuyu Island. There may also be gold deep in the mountains, but as this is a vast land yet to be opened up, it is difficult to conduct detailed surveys. One should achieve this when the opportunity arises.
**Silver Mines**
There have been no accounts of silver mines since ancient times. There are said to be some at "Garatami Mountain" and "Kafuwotsuf Mountain." Western Ezo has many deep mountains, and the interior is of great interest, but as I have not yet reached there myself, it is difficult to report anything beyond hearsay.
**Copper Mines**
There is one in the deep mountains of Shebetsu in Eastern Ezo. There is also one in the mountains near Hakodate.
**Lead Mines**
Rahoma Peak in the interior of Miichi Village is said to be the finest. In a recent year, when people from Esashi Village dug there, approximately three hundred units were produced in a single year. There are also deposits in Akagami Village, Esashi Village, and other places.
**Iron Mines**
There are deposits in Omori Village, Ishizaki Village, and other places near Hakodate. They are also found in numerous other locations.
**Brass / Yellow Copper**
Found on islands called "Mesosui," "Ōsu," and "Torofu." This metal is not seen in Japan; it is golden in color in its raw state. It appears to be a kind of copper similar in nature to brass. A "Sekijin" (a red-haired foreigner, likely a Russian) crossed the sea and described it to me in detail.
**Emergency Rations (Preserved Food)**
Found at a place called "Shotsunecha" on Etorofu (Iturup) Island. It is stored and used as provisions from time to time. The color is white, it resembles mochi (rice cake), and it is sweet in taste. When I crossed to this island, I became separated from my companion vessel, and having neither rice nor miso, I boiled grass roots and added this substance to make a meal. It was remarkably light and good in flavor.
**Wansei (Bowl-Blue / Celadon-type substance)**
Brought from Shikotan (Shikotan Island), it is a rare and precious item. Experts and connoisseurs gathered to examine and evaluate it, and concluded it to be "Butto-ko" (Buddha's-head incense/fragrance)——(continues on next page)
