【川路〔川〕】（湯から帰る）「わたしが、この中〔ちゅう〕のかんざしね、浮きが出ましてね。」
【小間物屋】「直して差し上げましょう。」
（そこへ、奥の二階から、部屋持ちの女郎〔あだ崎〕が来て——）
【あだ崎】「もし、この櫛をついで〔磨いで〕来ておくんなんし。どうぞ早くお頼み申します。」
【小間物屋】「かしこまりました。」
（と言うのは、こいつ〔この櫛〕は、昨夜、色男と口喧嘩をして、折られた櫛の死骸と見えるなり。そこへまた——）
【振袖新造〔ふりしん〕】（来り）「指輪はまだできんせんか？」
【小間物屋】「明日はできます。紋所は桐〔桐紋〕と花菱〔花菱紋〕を比翼〔ひよく〕だったっけね？」
【振袖新造】「これ、さしづかに〔そのまま確かに〕言っておくんなんしな。馬鹿らしい。」
（と恥ずかしがる。振袖新造の精一杯の楽しみならん。）
【小間物屋】「ちょっと浮里さんのところへ行かなければならぬ。」
【振袖新造】「浮里さんのところには、確かに居続けがあるよ。」

**[Sundries vendor]** "It'll be ready tomorrow. The crests were to be paulownia and *hanabishi* [diamond-flower], paired as *hiyoku* [double crests], weren't they?"
**[Furishin]** "Just make sure you say it exactly right, now. Good grief."
*(She says this with some embarrassment — this must be the greatest little pleasure a furisode-shinzō could have.)*
**[Sundries vendor]** "I must just pop in to see Ukisato's place."
**[Furishin]** "I believe Ukisato-san has a *itsuzuke* [extended-stay guest] right now."
**[Sundries vendor]** "Ah, right then."
*(And he heads off toward the back. ○ Meanwhile, in Yūgiri's sitting room, the furisode-shinzō has been laying out the chopstick box and a lacquered eight-sun tray, and arranging the tea bowls. The water in the earthenware kettle on the brazier is beginning to sing — chin-chin. Beside it, tobacco leaves are laid on top of a book called* Kogetsu-shū*, and the drawer of the tobacco tray has been pulled out to serve as a tobacco holder.)*
