**[Yūgiri / 夕霧]** "The day I set for it ran out the day before yesterday."

*(Just as she says this, a maid [gejo] from the teahouse arrives, wiping her eyes with a scrap of crepe fabric.)*
**[Maid / 下女]** "Excuse me — the oiran, regarding the fan she was so kind as to write [a poem/inscription] on the other day — a guest has come to collect it again and again."
**[Yūgiri / 夕霧]** "Is there something particular [the guest] would like on it?"
**[Maid / 下女]** "As long as it has your name on it, that will do."
**[Yūgiri / 夕霧]** "Oh, anything will do then, will it — very well, I'll write something on it."
**[Maid / 下女]** "I am most grateful."

**[O-Kichi / お吉]** "Come to think of it, *shinobu* [a swept-back, modest hairstyle] suits you far better than *tegara* [a more elaborate, proud style], you know."
